Darts World Matchplay 2013 Results: Michael Van Gerwen Storms Past Peter Wright
Michael van Gerwen sent out a message to Phil Taylor and Co. with a blistering 13-3 win over Peter Wright to book a World Matchplay quarter-final clash with Dave Chisnall.
After sharing the opening four legs, World No. 2 Van Gerwen went through the gears and reeled off five legs on the spin to move 7-2 ahead.
Wright stopped the rot with a 96 checkout in the 10th leg, but Van Gerwen hit back to take the final six legs, and in the process he recorded a three-dart match average of 105.58, the highest of the tournament so far, according to the Professional Darts Corporation’s official website. After the match, Sky Sports quoted the 24-year-old as saying:

"I played a very good game, but I still missed quite a few doubles.
My scoring power in the beginning of the legs was absolutely amazing but after that I had some bad shots. I twice had the chance for a nine-darter but for some reason I didn't hit a treble.
"
Up next for Mighty Mike is a last-eight clash with Chisnall, who battled his way to a 13-10 win over Jamie Caven.
After racing into a 6-2 lead on the back of some power scoring, Chizzy Rascal saw Caven roar back and take a 10-7 advantage.
Chisnall responded in style and took the final six legs of the contest to progress to a quarter-final with Van Gerwen on Friday.
"It was an exciting game and it's brilliant to be through," said Chisnall to the PDC. "I felt comfortable early on but Jamie came back really strongly."
Brendan Dolan hit a maximum 170 finish, but he had no answer to the power scoring of two-time world champion Adrian Lewis, who stormed to a 13-5 victory.
Lewis will face fellow Stoke thrower Andy Hamilton in the quarter-finals following the Hammer’s 13-7 win over Ian White.
The quarter-finals begin at Blackpool's Winter Gardens on Thursday; reigning champion Taylor takes on Justin Pipe, and Simon Whitlock faces James Wade.
