British Open Leaderboard 2013: Day 3 Score Updates and Online Coverage Info
The action is certainly heating up at Muirfield Golf Links as the best players in the world are vying for the Open Championship and the prestigious Claret Jug. Although many who were considered to be top contenders have played their way out of the running already, several others are very much in the hunt as the third round progresses.
It's nearly impossible to predict how things will play out since so many solid golfers are bunched up near the top of the leaderboard. With that said, at least a couple of them figure to separate from the field on Saturday, so you certainly won't want to miss the third-round action at Muirfield.

Can Tiger Woods Make a Run?
Until Tiger Woods wins another major, his drought will always be the main point of discussion. Woods has dealt with injuries and personal issues since winning the 2008 U.S. Open, but he finally appears to be back at the top of his game. Woods is the world's top player by virtue of four victories this season, but he hasn't been able to put it all together at a major quite yet. It appears as though that could be changing at Muirfield, however.
Woods had a strong first round at two-under par, and although the second-round conditions were difficult, he was able to grind his way to an even round. Woods is very much in the thick of things as the third round gets rolling, but he has struggled mightily on Saturdays and Sundays in majors over the past few years. If Woods can continue to play like he did in the first two rounds, though, he may lift the Claret Jug for the fourth time in his illustrious career.
Which Unheralded Players Will Remain in Contention?
One of the fun things about majors is the fact that so many under-the-radar players often find their way into big spots. Most of them fall off at some point, but others shock the world and end up winning it all. Either could happen at this year's Open Championship as the likes of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Ryan Moore and others are all within at least a few shots of the lead.
Performing in the first two rounds is one thing, but the pressure ramps up to insane levels when the weekend comes. That is why a guy like Tiger is always a threat in majors. He has handled the pressure on many occasions, and that experience serves him well. Most of the unheralded players in contention at Muirfield have never been in this position before. Because of that, it's impossible to know how they'll react. Some will falter, but all it takes is for one to dig in and play great in order for a huge upset to occur.
Does Hometown Hero Martin Laird Have a Chance?
With so few top-level Scottish golfers on tour, it didn't seem like one of them had a great chance of winning on home soil. Martin Laird has played quite well lately, though, and he is in the mix at one-under par. The 30-year-old Scot is 24th on the PGA Tour money list this year, and he has a win to his credit as well, so he suddenly seems like a prime candidate to potentially break out with a major victory.
Laird hasn't performed spectacularly in majors this season as he missed the cut at the Masters and finished 21st at the U.S. Open, but he has been improving significantly over the past couple years. There is no question that Laird will have to overcome a number of great players in order to lift the Claret Jug, but being in the running is all he can ask for.
