The 7,192-yard par-71 course will play the role of host to the tournament for the 16th time in its illustrious history. The tournament was last held there in 2002 when Ernie Els won the championship on a playoff hole over Stuart Appleby.

Top Contenders
Tiger Woods
Disappointing performance at the U.S. Open aside, Woods has to be considered the top favorite heading into The Open.
He's still the No. 1 player in the world, a four-time winner this season and a three-time champion of The Open.
At this point it feels like predicting Tiger to break his five year major drought is like crying "wolf" over and over again. However, his 32nd place finish in the U.S. Open can be attributed to an elbow injury. Assuming he's healthy, he'll be in the hunt.
Justin Rose
Want a more realistic pick to win it all? Justin Rose has a case for being the biggest favorite at Muirfield.
The 32-year-old is coming off of his first major championship at the U.S. Open. It wasn't a fluke performance, either.
Rose has been one of the best golfers in the world this season. He finished in the top 25 of the Masters and has five top 10 finishes in nine events.
Throw in the fact that he was able to finish T13 at the Travelers Championship just one week after winning the U.S. Open and it's clear that he's entering The Open with plenty of momentum.
Adam Scott
Don't count out Adam Scott based on his T45 finish at the U.S. Open. The second major has given him problems throughout his career, the highest he's ever finished there in his career was T15.
The truth is Scott is in a great position to contend at The Open. He was the 2012 runner-up and scored a top 25 finish the year before.
Last season the Australian finished T8 at Augusta before putting in his strong performance in The Open. This year, coming off of the Masters win, he should be right back in the thick of things.
Expect him to add to his three top 10 finishes this year.
