Signing Luis Suarez Could Further Alienate Arsenal Fans
Arsenal Football Club have failed to win a trophy in eight years, which has caused much debate about the club amongst fans (especially Piers Morgan) on whether Arsene Wenger should be relieved of his management duties.
However, much to the chagrin of Mr. Morgan, the Arsenal manager looks to be staying with the club for the foreseeable future.
Arsenal's season tickets are currently the most expensive in the Premier League, despite having one of the biggest stadiums in the country, which further alienates the average fan who can't afford the high prices at the Emirates.
In recent weeks it appeared the club would be closing in on Real Madrid and Argentine international Gonzalo Higuain, per Sky Sports, which would have reinvigorated the Arsenal squad and many of the disgruntled fans.ย
But the deal now seems less likely as time goes by with rumours that Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will try and convince the striker to stayย at the Santiago Bernabeu, per Yahoo! Sport.
Now, following a rejected bid last week, via BBC Sport, Arsenal are rumoured by David Hytner of the Guardian to be looking to up their bid for the controversial Uruguay star.
Suarez has been a recipient of much hate from around the Premier League because of various misdemeanours, including bans for racial abuse, biting an opponent and obscene gestures.
He has more recently been criticised after apparently changing his reasons for leaving Liverpool from trying to avoid the British press to wanting to play at a higher level.
The signing of the player by Arsenal would certainly add quality to their attacking line, with his skill, touch and finishing ability putting him into the PFA Team of the Season.ย
But the other side of the front man will give Arsenal's image a knock before the player would have even put on an Arsenal shirt.
Following the biting incident with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, former Liverpool player and manager Graeme Souness spoke about the damage it would do to Liverpool's image.
This was not a one-off; there was a previous incident in Holland, along with other incidents. Suarez is much criticised by international press, which will create a negative view of the club. ย
The signing of Suarez would also potentially alienate parents wanting to bring children who could perhaps see the player as a poor role model. This would further damage the club.
Technically Luis Suarez is one of the best players in the world, but financially and image-wise, is it worth the risk? I don't think so.
