WWE Money in the Bank: 5 Wrestlers Who Will Lose on Sunday

Chris GrovesJun 8, 2018

Money in the Bank really does promise to be a heck of a pay-per-view for the WWE this Sunday.

My only criticism (apart from Rob Van Dam not making an appearance before he competes) would be that so many matches seem a little too predictable right now. Many matches have performers who simply cannot afford to lose—and therefore won't—and each Ladder Match has at least one Superstar who really doesn't have much of a chance at all.

This slideshow features six men or women on the card this Sunday who, in my opinion, stand no chance of winning their matches. But I'll also explain why that shouldn't be the case, and why you should back cheer them on.

Shall we begin?

Christian

1 of 6

How can you not root for this guy?

A veteran of the business, Christian has taken his rightful place in a match that has the phrase "All-Star" in it. Since his return after aggravating a shoulder injury, Captain Charisma has done everything in his power to show not just that he deserves to be in this match, but that he's still physically able to take all the bumps that come in a Money in the Bank contest.

In his return match with Wade Barrett, he proceeded to throw himself all over the place in impressive fashion, and his match on Smackdown with Randy Orton showed that he can still hang with the best.

The former world champion probably won't ever be able to shake off his "injury-prone" tag, and I'd be very surprised if he won this Sunday, but he certainly won't look out of place.

Expect him to fly as high and as often as anyone else on the card.

The Usos

2 of 6

If any up-and-coming wrestling geek wanted a practical example of what people mean when they say performers are being "pushed," then look no further than what The Usos have been up to over the last few weeks.

A month ago, Jimmy and Jey Uso were barely making it onto WWE's flagship programs, yet two weeks ago they were two-thirds of only the second team to beat The Shield since their debut last year. And thanks to that they've got a shot at the tag titles at Money in the Bank.

Don't get me wrong: They're great to watch; the twin sons of Rikishi both have that mixture of power and speed that their father had and as good a chemistry as any tag team in the division. Although Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns may have something to say about that.

If I had to put my money on any result this Sunday, it would be The Shield walking out of the Wells Fargo Center with the belts still in their possession, but it is still a good chance for The Usos to give a good showing of themselves so they're kept in mind for future tag team runs.

Kaitlyn

3 of 6

This week's Smackdown treated us to something very rare: an in-ring contract signing for a Divas championship match.

Not just that: It was really fun to watch, too, which might be even more surprising.

Aside from all the sparkly dresses and Big E Langston's ability to be funny without even talking, AJ and Kaitlyn showed once again that they work really well together, whether that's in the ring or when they're cutting promos. Their Payback rematch this Sunday promises to be back and forth from the beginning, although I really can't see past AJ finding a way to beat her former best friend.

But Kaitlyn has been a breath of fresh air in the Divas division since she won the title earlier this year, and her physical power is something that's been lacking in the women's competition for a few years now.
She may not win in Philadelphia, but Kaitlyn's already proven that she's a force to be reckoned with.

Jack Swagger

4 of 6

OK, guys, I'll give this one my best shot.

When you think back, isn't it strange when you realise that Jack Swagger actually won the Elimination Chamber match in February? He returned in a blaze of glory with a new mouthpiece in Zeb Colter, who, after Elimination Chamber, seemed to be the only thing keeping Swagger relevant. WWE's legitimate beef with Glenn Beck's comments were projected via Colter and became very real when Michael Cole went down to Beck's HQ seeking further comments on his heavy-handed criticism of the company.

Look, Swagger's obviously talented, and a former World Heavyweight Champion for what it's worth. But since his inclusion in the Ladder Match this Sunday was announced, we've barely heard him speak, let alone wrestle. If the "All-American American" had a few matches over the last few weeks, then he'd be seen as  a contender like all the other participants, but he's not. Maybe his lack of action is some sort of punishment for a certain misdemeanor just prior to WrestleMania...

The World Title contract Ladder Match is between six guys, and Jack Swagger's in there to be knocked off the ladder at the end.

Mark Henry

5 of 6

I've read a lot of articles that, unsurprisingly, think that Mark Henry will beat John Cena in Philadelphia and become the new WWE Champion. Reasons for this include that Philly would be a good place for Cena to drop the title, as they haven't really liked him there for eight years, and that Mark Henry just flat-out deserves it for what he's given to the company over his career.

Personally, I see this one as just another routine pay-per-view title defense by Cena, where he's overpowered for most of the match but rallies through to the win in dramatic fashion. Why would they take the title off of him before SummerSlam? The only way he's going to lose it is if he really takes a beating from Henry before defeating him, and whoever won the All-Stars Money in the Bank match cashes it straight in on a defenseless Cena—but even that scenario is becoming a little old now.

That aside, Henry has done an extremely good job in making people take notice of him, starting with the fake retirement speech and giving the champion something to really think about from then until now. On paper, this could have easily been one of the least interesting matches on the card, but thanks to the efforts of the World's Strongest Man, it isn't. And if the quality of their match is up to standard with its build-up, then we're in for a treat.

Unfortunately, it's a treat of which Henry will be on the losing side, as Cena continues his "amazing year" with a good momentum-builder to whatever they decide to throw at him at SummerSlam, despite all of Henry's hard work.

Conclusion

6 of 6

I've chosen these five performers as underdogs with almost absolute confidence that they'll have nothing to brag about when the next Raw airs on Monday. The odds are either just too stacked against them, or they're simply wrestling the wrong person at the wrong time.

Think I'm wrong? Go ahead and leave a comment telling me what you think, as all feedback is very much encouraged.
