NBA Rumors: Latest Buzz on Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo and More
With the 2013 NBA draft in the books, the focus now shifts to July's free-agency period, which will see a plethora of players change teams.
But no move will more anticipated or scrutinized than Dwight Howard's. The flip-flopping NBA superstar is coming off a rocky season with the Los Angeles Lakers and could bolt Hollywood for greener pastures this summer as an unrestricted free agent.
Of course we'll have to wait to see what happens, but for now we can dive into some juicy rumors.
Here we'll take a look at the latest buzz surrounding some of the league's biggest names this summer.
Dwight Howard Likely On the Move?
The ongoing Dwight Howard drama is sure to drag all the way up until July 10 when he can officially sign a new deal. As of now, it's looking likely that Howard will sign elsewhere according to sources via ESPN NBA insider Chris Broussard:
"There is very little chance of Dwight Howard re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, according to sources close to the situation.
"
There are a number of teams Howard could wind up with this summer, but according to ESPN insider Ric Bucher, the Golden State Warriors aren't one of them:
According to ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, sources say that Howard and the Houston Rockets will meet in L.A. soon after the free-agency period begins early Monday morning.
"Shortly after NBA free agency commences in the wee hours Sunday night, Dwight Howard is set to meet in Los Angeles with a Houston Rockets contingent that includes management, current players and former star center Hakeem Olajuwon, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting.
"
A seven-time NBA All-Star, Howard led the league in rebounding last season and is widely regarded as the best free agent available this summer.
Dallas Mavericks Looking to Land Rajon Rondo?
According to a league source via Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, the Dallas Mavericks, who are hoping to sign Dwight Howard this summer, are also interested in working out a deal with the Boston Celtics that would bring point guard Rajon Rondo to Texas.
The potential move would be a shocking one to say the least, considering the Celtics have already agreed to ship Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.
Rondo, who led the league with 11.1 assists per game last season, is currently recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, which he suffered back January. But he's one of the top floor generals in the league and he's only 27.
Bringing in a brilliant pass-first point guard in Rondo could be the move that ultimately wins Dwight Howard's heart this offseason.
Brooklyn Nets Interested in Signing Kyle Korver?
The Brooklyn Nets are looking to win now. That's obvious after the team agreed to a trade with the Boston Celtics that will bring veteran stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn.
Now, according to Tim Bontemps and Fred Kerber of The New York Post, the Nets have interest in adding a veteran sharpshooter to the mix this summer:
"Multiple sources insist the Nets will take a long free agency look at Korver, who definitely fills the “shooter” requirement on the team’s offseason wish list.
"
Korver played with the Atlanta Hawks last season, averaging nearly 11 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc. The 32-year-old is a 42-percent three-point shooter for his NBA career and could provide a huge boost for a Nets team that ranked just 17th in the league last season in three-point percentage.
