Why Sheamus Could Be in the Hunt for Multiple Championships
It has been just over seven months since WWE superstar Sheamus lost the World Heavyweight title to the Big Show at Hell in a Cell.
That event ended a 210 day title reign, and barring a few rematches, it has been quite some time since The Celtic Warrior has received a title shot. Instead, he has spent a vast majority of his time in feuds with the upstart group The Shield, and more recently, the "World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry, leaving no time for high profile title matches that can lead to championship glory.
So it seemed for the time being that he would need to sit back and patiently wait for his next opportunity on the main stage.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
But according to wwe.com, top level face Kofi Kingston will miss between four to eight weeks of action while undergoing and recovering from elbow surgery. This leaves the door wide open for another competitor to step up into the spotlight in his absence.
Enter Sheamus, who at age 35 is officially in the prime of his career.
A three-time World Champion, having held the World Heavyweight title once, as well as the WWE championship on two occasions, he already has the championship pedigree to take on all of the top competitors in the company.
With the exception of John Cena's WWE title, and Kaitlyn's Divas championship, every other title in the company right now is held by a heel competitor.
So it stands to reason that the company would want to put a well-established and popular competitor into a program with one of their heel champions.
Dolph Ziggler's World Heavyweight title seems out of the question at the moment, as he is recovering from a concussion. And even once he returns, he has number one contender Alberto Del Rio waiting on him.
Dean Ambrose and his United States title seem a good fit for Sheamus, as he has already held the title on one occasion. Plus, Kingston and Ambrose have been feuding over the title in recent weeks, and it could be an easy transition to simply place Sheamus into that spot.
The Intercontinental title, currently held by Wade Barrett, is another prize that he could set his sights upon. A rivalry between the two European competitors could be intriguing, as is the fact that Sheamus has never held the Intercontinental title.
Barrett's current issues with the Miz and Fandango could put an end to that plan.
That leaves the WWE Tag Team titles currently held by the Shield's Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. And this title scenario might actually be the most compelling. Like the Intercontinental title, Sheamus has never held the tag team titles. He has had many matches with Randy Orton in recent months, as his partner and the two seem to function decently as a unit.
The Shield have been defending the titles against Team Hell No in recent weeks, but the dissension between Daniel Bryan and Kane is starting to come to light, and they very well may end up feuding with each other. That leaves Rollins and Reigns with no real competition, as few established teams exist on the WWE roster.
And a lasting partnership with Orton could end up being a great idea.
They are both top caliber personalities that attract a great reaction from any crowd. And they are of a high enough spot on the roster where they can actually be seen as legitimate threats to the Shield and their title reign.
Should they win the titles, it could set up a decent storyline once they lose them down the road. Sheamus and Orton have put on some great contests in the past and are perfectly capable of doing so again.
And if they fail to win the titles, it could also set up a great feud between the two.
Whatever the scenario, some of the top level heels in WWE may need to tighten the grip on their titles and start to be on high alert.
A swift Brogue Kick may not be too far away.
