Well That Sucked…
“Pitching and defense, pitching and defense…” That’s what we’ve heard all off season, spring, and beyond. So far, neither have happened. I’m getting a jump start on my pissed off game recap as I watch the Reds slip to 10-10 in the 6th inning. Aaron Harang gave up six runs (five earned) off of six hits tonight, including a solo homer to struggling Ivan Rodriguez.
So there’s the pitching. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Aaron Harang—he’s not solely to blame for the bad pitching. In fact, he’s looked good in most of his outings this season. And talking about defense, the Reds have committed the third most errors in Major League Baseball thus far.
Only the Nationals and Cardinals have more. That last one is hard to believe and I’m sure it’s embarrassing for the Cards to be mentioned in the same category as the Reds and Nationals. Let’s not forget the Astros stole us blind tonight with 4 stolen bases between two guys.
One problem that even my untrained eye can see is that the Reds are consistently running guys out there who are fringe major leaguers at best. Darnell McDonald and probably Chris Dickerson have no business being in Cincinnati unless it’s for a cheese coney run.
And in case you were wondering, I will be the first to recant my predictions from earlier today. In fact, I commit to never make predictions again, because when I do, the Reds do the exact opposite.
On the dim side (and I say dim because nothing’s bright when you have as few hits as the Reds had tonight), Jerry Hairston Jr. had a nice night and accounted for most of the Reds offense.
Laynce Nix hit his first HR as a Cincinnati Red. That was apparently his first big league homer since 2006. He should have started in left tonight.
Brandon Phillips had a double and homer tonight (his 2nd of the year). Let’s hope he’s turning it around.
The other nice thing was that Edwin Encarnacion was placed on the 15 Day DL and Adam Rosales was called up today. I look forward to seeing how he responds to his callup.
Stuff and Things…
I can’t stand it when people who have seats inside the camera view get on their cell phones with their BFF’s and start waving at the camera. That is something Cubs fans do, not Reds fans. Not anyone with a brain.
Mike Lincoln is the Reds human white flag. A note to other clubs: when you see this guy, we’re done.
As Forrest Gump would say, “That’s all I have to say about that.”
