Mayweather vs. Guerrero: Full Breakdown of Money vs. The Ghost

Maxwell OgdenJun 1, 2018

Floyd Mayweather has made his triumphant return to the world of boxing, defeating Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision to reclaim the WBC Welterweight title and win the vacant The Ring Welterweight belt. Mayweather won by a unanimous count of 117-112.

As one might expect, Mayweather and Guerrero put on a show for those faithful fans that waited up to watch it transpire.

Mayweather was masterful, pairing aggressive offense with marvelous defense. Whether he was blasting Guerrero with a devastating hook or proving too elusive for the Ghost to make any sort of mark on him, Pretty Boy Floyd was dominant.

Allow the numbers to speak to that.

What more could you ask for?

Throughout the duration of the fight, Mayweather managed to work his right hand to perfection. Against Guerrero, a southpaw, Money routinely opened up the opposition's defense with straight rights and jabs.

This all led to a series of blows in Round 8 that nearly flattened his competitor.

Guerrero had his shining moments, albeit scarcely. Not only did he put Mayweather on the ropes, but early in the fight, he managed to take control and put the leather to Money's body and face.

Unfortunately, most of his success was found during the opening rounds.

From there, it was all about Mayweather's elusiveness and defensive prowess. Perhaps nothing was more impressive about his performance than his ability to fight off of the ropes, whether it was from his quick hands or electrifying footwork.

It got to the point that come the 12th round, Mayweather was bouncing around Guerrero with his gloves dropped.

Fortunately for those in attendance, Mayweather did much more than circle the ring. In fact, Mayweather routinely found his way between Guerrero's gloves to connect with rights to the face and body.

That left Guerrero bleeding from his left eye.

As previously alluded to, this fight was all about Round 8. Although Mayweather had been in control early, it was the eighth round in which Money made us remember why he's the pound-for-pound king of the boxing world.

Right after right, it was surgical how Mayweather tore Guerrero apart.

With the win, Mayweather moves to 44-0 and reclaims his throne atop the welterweight division. More importantly, he's reaffirmed his status as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in the history of professional boxing.

Guerrero gave his all, but it was all about the Money in this one.
