NBA Playoff Schedule 2013: Sunday's TV Network Listings and Start Times
Sunday’s NBA playoff action can be summed up in one word: “sweep.”
There are three teams looking to bust out the brooms and advance in four games, while a trio of opponents will desperately try to avoid an embarrassing exit and win at least one game for the home fans.
The only game that doesn’t have the possibility for elimination is the Golden State vs. Denver contest, but the Warriors can push the Nuggets to the brink by taking care of business.
Let’s take a look at that matchup and more in our Sunday playoff preview, which includes information on where to watch the games, where they take place, a short preview, a prediction on the outcome and more.
No. 2 New York Knicks at No. 7 Boston Celtics, Game 4, Eastern Conference
Time: Sunday, April 28, 1 p.m. ET
TV: ABC
Where: TD Garden, Boston, Mass.
Series Record: Knicks 3, Celtics 0
A few players on the Knicks roster remember all too well how painful being swept out of the 2011 playoffs was, and now they have a chance to extract the perfect revenge on the Celtics.
Just two seasons later, the C’s are now on the verge of going winless in the playoffs, a feat that hasn’t happened since the team was eliminated in four games by the Indiana Pacers all the way back in 2004.
If the Knickerbockers are going to bust out the brooms, they’ll have to do it without Sixth Man of the Year and second-leading scorer J.R. Smith, who was suspended this contest for elbowing Jason Terry in Game 3.
Regardless, with Carmelo Anthony playing out of his mind and the team’s defense keeping Boston under 80 points in every game of the series thus far, it shouldn’t be difficult for New York to escape the Garden with a victory.
Prediction: Knicks 85 – Celtics 79
No. 1 Miami Heat at No. 8 Milwaukee Bucks, Game 4, Eastern Conference
Time: Sunday, April 28, 3:30 p.m. ET
TV: ABC
Where: BMO Harris Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wis.
Series Record: Heat 3, Bucks 0
After the Bucks lost the first three games of this series, it was clear they weren’t going to live up to Brandon Jennings’ promise of beating the Heat in six games—considering the mathematically impossibility of such an accomplishment.
If Milwaukee desires to keep the slimmest flicker of hope alive for its fans that the club can win in seven, the Bucks will have to pull out an improbable victory on Sunday.
However, with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade both locked in and giving dominating performances that look routine, it’s going to be extremely challenging for the undersized and outmatched Bucks to stave off elimination.
Perhaps if Jennings, Monta Ellis and J.J. Redick go bananas from beyond the arc they can win, but the likelihood of that happening is around nil—considering the motivated and feisty defense of the Heat.
Expect LeBron and Co. to advance on Sunday and get some rest before the conference semifinals.
Prediction: Heat 101 – Bucks 93
No. 2 San Antonio Spurs at No. 7 Los Angeles Lakers, Game 4, Western Conference
Time: Sunday, April 28, 7 p.m. ET
TV: TNT
Live Stream: TNT Overtime
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, Calif.
Series Record: Spurs 3, Lakers 0
After winning Game 3 by a ridiculous 120-89 margin, the Spurs are primed to put the Lakers out of their misery on Sunday evening.
Without Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles has fallen apart and is incapable of doing enough out on the perimeter to augment Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol’s low-post game.
That certainly doesn’t bode well for the Lake Show’s future should Bryant retire, which is an issue that fans of the organization will have plenty of time to ponder and the front office will have to address in the coming offseason.
That offseason is certainly approaching quickly and should be here by the end of Sunday night, as the Spurs are simply the better team and will likely emphatically finish off this sweep on L.A.’s home court.
Prediction: Spurs 97 – Lakers 85
No. 3 Denver Nuggets at No. 6 Golden State Warriors, Game 4, Eastern Conference
Time: Sunday, April 28, 9:30 p.m. ET
TV: TNT
Where: Oracle Arena, San Francisco, Calif.
Series Record: Warriors 2, Nuggets 1
We’re finally looking at a series that could legitimately still go either way, as the others—barring a miracle—are all but decided.
The Dubs pulled off an incredible victory in front of their fans in Game 3, using the crowd’s energy to rally from a major deficit and win behind Stephen Curry’s 29 points and 11 assists.
There is still plenty of work left to do if Golden State is going to advance to the second round for the first time since its miracle 2007 run and just the second time since the 1992 season.
Denver is going to do its best to even things up on the road, but it’s going to be extremely tough in front of a boisterous group of rowdy Warriors supporters.
Regardless, Ty Lawson has proven himself in this series as a legitimate go-to guy and will be the difference between the Nuggets going back to Denver with the series tied or on the brink of elimination.
Prediction: Warriors 107 – Nuggets 105
