EPL Week 33 Predictions: Players Sure to Land in All-EPL Team for Week's Clashes

Dan TalintyreApr 10, 2013

After a thrilling week of European action, the English Premier League again takes center stage this weekend with plenty of mini-battles and matchups to watch for.

It might be the top four, it might be beating a rival or it might be avoiding the relegation zone—either way, there's plenty to look forward to this week in the EPL.

The players themselves will know that, and they'll no doubt be primed for big performances. And as a result, certain players are likely to shine this week against favorable matchups—perhaps even ending up in the All-EPL Team of the Week.

Read on to see which players are primed for greatness this week.

GK: Tim Howard, Everton

1 of 11

The ageless Tim Howard was superb against Tottenham last week and he'll no doubt line up for the home side when they take on Queens Park Rangers.

QPR have scored less than a goal per game this season and playing away from home this weekend won't help them rectify those numbers. Especially not at Goodison Park, where Everton have chalked up a very strong defensive and winning record throughout the year.

Look for Howard to post a clean sheet here against a flimsy QPR attack.

LB: Leighton Baines, Everton

2 of 11

Coming off a frustrating performance against Tottenham Hotspur that saw Kyle Walker often get the better of him, Leighton Baines will bounce back with a very strong performance for Everton this week.

Baines has been the premier left back all season of the competition, with his ability to get forward and help out the attack crucial to Everton's campaign. And against Queens Park Rangers the defender will definitely like his chances to chime in down the left again in this one.

Long balls should keep him on his toes in defense, but it should also allow him to be a part of plenty of the action—giving him every chance to succeed this weekend.

CB: Steven Taylor, Newcastle United

3 of 11

The 27-year-old has not had the strongest of seasons in Newcastle with some less than impressive performances for the Magpies throughout the year.

However, even Taylor should thrive at home to Sunderland who have struggled for attacking creativity and direction all season.

Taylor leads the Premier League in average clearances per game, and with a much more talented core around him now than at the start of the year, we should see a strong performance from him in this one.

CB: Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United

4 of 11

Rio Ferdinand has had arguably a career year for the Red Devils, with the veteran showcasing just how strong of a defender he still is despite his age.

Ferdinand was solid against Manchester City on the weekend—unable to do anything about either goal, really—and will likely take his spot in the starting lineup this week for their difficult away fixture to Stoke City, where few teams have triumphed this year.

Stoke are a physical team that like to get big bodies in motion—something that will suit Ferdinand's style of play here. The aggression and physical nature of this clash will suit him, and should allow the Red Devils to post a very strong performance at the Brittania Stadium.

RB: Mathieu Debuchy, Newcastle United

5 of 11

The Tyne-Wear derby often brings out the best in people, and we should see a strong performance from Magpies' defender Mathieu Debuchy in this one.

Sunderland do not have the biggest offensive presence in the league and, away from home, will struggle to get forward a great deal. That will work well for Debuchy—allowing him to get down the right flank and help out with the attack—which will in turn, lead to a very strong game from the Magpies.

Look for Debuchy as a big attacking threat on the right wing.

CM: Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton

6 of 11

There have been few better defensive midfielders this year than Morgan Schneiderlin, who has thrived in the middle of the park as a tackling weapon for the Saints.

Schneiderlin averages an incredible 4.2 tackles and 3.9 interceptions per game this year, and against West Ham (who don't travel well at all and struggle to get anything going through the middle), should see this game play right into his strengths.

CM: Mikel Arteta, Arsenal

7 of 11

Arsenal are on a roll right now, and with players set to return from injury this week, Mikel Arteta should see himself chalk up a very strong performance at home.

The Spanish star recently spoke out about the confidence the Gunners have at the moment (per ESPN), and playing at home will no doubt help that here.

Norwich haven't been good in attack this year (just 30 goals so far this season) and will surely see their midfield overrun by the dominance of Arteta.

He is averaging a stellar 3.2 tackles and 2.7 interceptions per game and has five goals and two assists to add to his great season.

Look for him to be an ever-present force in the middle this week.

LW: Steven Pienaar, Everton

8 of 11

Everton's left-hand side has been a dominant force all season, and it will likely carry the same punch with it this week when it welcomes QPR to Merseyside.

The Toffees have been very strong all season, and that should mean big things for Pienaar, who will be looking to add to his five goals and assists in this one.

The South-African star has been very solid getting back in defense, but with QPR unlikely to offer anything more than long-balls to Loic Remy and Everton having the home-ground advantage, Pienaar should be afforded the luxury of getting forward.

That should see a big game from him this week.

CAM: Michu, Swansea City

9 of 11

Michu's blistering start to the season may have died down of late as Swansea's struggles emerge, but the style of game against Wigan Athletic should suit him and the Swans this weekend, with both teams possessing blistering counterattacking abilities.

Wigan will be playing for their relegation survival, and will be looking to attack well on the Swans. That should open up at the back for Michu here, who could have a very big day against the team with the third-worst defensive record in the competition.

Michu had four shots, created two-goal scoring opportunities for others and netted a goal of his own when he played Wigan Athletic earlier in the year, and is primed for a similar showing in this one.

RW: Theo Walcott, Arsenal

10 of 11

Theo Walcott should return this week for Arsenal, and will likely be selected out on the right wing here as a result, where he has been so deadly all season for the Gunners.

Walcott has 11 goals and nine assists this year in just 18 starting appearances and against a struggling defensive team like Norwich, should have a big day here.

The North London club have a lot of confidence flowing at the moment, and Walcott should see plenty of attacking chances as a result of that.

ST: Luis Suarez, Liverpool

11 of 11

I would not like to be Reading this weekend.

After squandering chances galore last week against West Ham—and failing to score the entire game as a result—Liverpool will likely come out this week very keen to leave a mark on the league once more, starting with their offensive production.

The Reds' offense starts and ends with Suarez, and against the worst defensive team in the competition he will surely see his name in the scoresheet at the end of this week—something he should be very used to after already netting 22 goals in the EPL.

Liverpool managed 27 shots against Reading in their last encounter, with Suarez having 10 of them. If that happens again in this one, then look out Royals.
