WrestleMania 29: Grading the Top Performances from PPV Event

Brian MaziqueJun 8, 2018

On a whole, WrestleMania 29 was a decent pay-per-view. With the show being such a hyped event every year, it is very difficult for it to ever live up to everyone's expectations.

The match between the Undertaker and CM Punk, along with the Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar match, were the highlights of the night in my opinion, but the main event was not very good at all.

John Cena became the WWE champion again—which was expected—but that's not what made it a poor match. The reversals and kick outs became redundant and the majority of the moves were average at best.

If the rest of the show had been terrible, this main event would have made WrestleMania 29 one of the worst ever. Luckily, some solid performances earlier in the show shed some light on a dim finale.

Here are the best performers of the night, with a grade based on in-ring execution and dramatics.

Big E Langston - B+

I was a little worried about how well Big E would fare in his in-ring debut, but he did quite well. Not only did he move at a solid pace, but he performed one of the moves of the night in my opinion.

The triple backbreaker he hit Kane with was extremely impressive. He didn't seem to strain at all as he repeatedly smashed the Big Red Machine into his knee and thigh.

Even though Langston and Dolph Ziggler lost, I came away impressed with Big E's performance.

Triple H - B+

The Game proved he can still put on a show in his match with Brock Lesnar. Their battle was physical, risky—considering their size—and exciting.

Triple H really put his body on the line in this match. I thought he was broken in half when Lesnar suplexed him through the announcer's table.

The only thing that kept me from giving him an A was the fact that we didn't see a huge variety of moves.

Brock Lesnar - A-

Lesnar was in great shape and he really put out a solid effort. That is refreshing to see from a part-time star.

He could have easily showed up and let his name be the main appeal for the match, but he truly made this brawl feel like a no-holds barred fight.

We saw some of his old school throws, and the pace of this match was much better than his meeting with Triple H at SummerSlam.

He did botch taking the Pedigree, but other than that, he was excellent.

Undertaker - A+

The phenom is 48 years old, but he out-worked and out-performed every man but one on the roster on Sunday night.

This dude is truly an amazing wrestler in every sense.

He kept pace with one of the company's best in-ring performers. He executed reversals, and if you weren't paying attention to his time-changed body, you could barely tell you weren't watching the Taker from 10 years ago.

Every time I see him, I start to believe more and more that he may be the greatest of all-time.

CM Punk - A+

Only Punk could look this good in defeat.

From perfectly executing Undertaker's Old School rope walk, to landing an amazing video-game like flying elbow from the top rope to the announcer's table, he was stellar at WrestleMania.

Punk did it all but win on Sunday night. But considering the circumstances, that didn't even matter. As active, full-time wrestlers go, he is the best in the world.

Follow me, because wrestling is a part of our lives.
