WWE Superstars and Their Comic Book Equivalents
The world of WWE and that of comic books isn't all that different.
WWE and comics are both filled with good guys and bad guys. In both worlds, the good guy is always placed in precarious situations by the villain or evildoer.
And in both places, no matter how far ahead the bad guy gets, the good guy always prevails.
In this article, some current and former WWE Superstars will be paired with their comic book equivalents. The logic behind each pairing has to do with appearance, character and personality.
So without further adieu, up, up and away we go.
Kane: Bane
1 of 11These two men clearly share similar looks.
In order to get the best out of this pairing, you have to go back to Kane's character around the time that he was feuding with Shane McMahon. At that time, Kane was portraying a man who was pure evil.
Bane is a man who was born in darkness—molded by it, you might say. He didn't see the light until he was already a man, and by that time it was nothing but blinding to him. Shadows betray the normal man because those shadows belong to Bane.
Kane comes from a broken home. His brother is the Undertaker. He went through a phase in life where he liked to set people on fire. Some of those people include his brother, his dead parents and Jim Ross.
Oh, and don't forget the time he electrocuted Shane McMahon.
Not only is Bane the comic equivalent to Kane, but can you imagine these two men teaming up? Or sitting down for a conversation over tea?
They could trade some interesting stories with one another.
Randy Orton: Batman
2 of 11Put Randy Orton in a cowl, and you just know he has the jaw structure to pull off being Batman.
Orton and Batman can both be considered anti-heroes. Batman's one because, well he is after all the hero that Gotham deserves. However, at the same time, Batman is also not the hero they need right now. Despite all of that, the man still acts as a guardian for the city.
Orton is the Apex Predator of the WWE.
Whether he is playing the role of a face or heel, Orton always plays both sides of the fence. Like Batman, Orton does what needs to be done. Sometimes WWE fans cheer him for that, and other times they boo him.
Orton is also crafty and stealthy. These just happen to be two things on which Batman prides himself.
If you recall Orton from the days of Evolution, you might remember his taste for women and fast cars. I dare say that Orton and Bruce Wayne share quite similar interests.
Triple H: Thor
3 of 11Sometimes in life there are freebies. This is one of those times.
Triple H could pass for Thor, and vice versa. Both of these men have an affinity for carrying around a large hammer, and smashing things and people with it.
They are also very crafty with their hammers. Thor obviously can summon his hammer whenever he feels the need to use it. Triple H doesn't quite have that kind of power.
However, it seems that no matter the situation, Trips always has his hammer close by.
Then, of course, you have to take into consideration that Thor is a god and Triple H is the King of Kings.
Granted, they are not the same but comparable.
Zack Ryder: Booster Gold
4 of 11Just look at these two for a minute.
Zack Ryder and Booster Gold both have big dreams, but not so much to show for it. Both men have their own small core group of fans, and nobody can take that away from them. However, both men want what they have and so much more.
Booster wants to be the greatest hero ever. In that quest he often gets himself or bigger heroes into trouble. Ryder wants to be pushed.
Have you seen his new tights? Ryder wants to be a huge WWE Superstar.
In fact, instead of winning a real WWE belt, Ryder went and created his own. Booster at one point was only concerned with making the big hero saves. So he went and got himself a hotline number to screen emergencies.
They both are also very fond of their hair.
Woo Woo Woo, you know it!
Dean Ambrose: The Joker
5 of 11Is it fair to say that Dean Ambrose is sampling some of Heath Ledger's inner Joker? Yeah, that works.
Ambrose is part of The Shield. The Shield came to WWE to shield it from injustice and to right the wrongs in the name of justice. It sounds great in theory, but when a mad man like Ambrose is their leader, things get a bit sketchy.
The Joker himself is also a giver. Joker felt that Gotham deserved a better class of criminal, which he gladly stepped forward to provide.
Joker and Ambrose are both crazy and intriguing at the same time.
If only Ambrose could step up his sense of style a little bit.
Brock Lesnar: The Hulk
6 of 11Don't make him angry!
Okay, so Lesnar isn't green, and no matter how angry he gets he will not turn green. That's quite alright though, because there are plenty of other ways that Lesnar and Hulk are similar.
Hulk is a pure beast; he becomes the Hulk out of rage. As the Hulk, he smashes and destroys things, and generally speaking he cannot control his temper or his range of destruction.
Lesnar is a human war machine. He is a man who speaks with his actions as opposed to his words. His actions are usually quick and decisive, and the consequence of said actions is usually someone getting hurt.
Lesnar also lacks anything close to decent mic skills. Which is fine for him, because he has Paul Heyman as his mouthpiece. The Hulk also lacks any and all verbal skills while he is in the middle of hulking and rampaging.
And even though Lesnar isn't green, he is one massive-looking human being.
Beth Phoenix: Wonder Woman
7 of 11Beth Phoenix is the Glamazon and Wonder Woman is from the Amazon.
The Glamazon character that Phoenix played in WWE was strikingly similar to Wonder Woman—only evil, of course. Parts of her costume even resembled Wonder Woman's attire.
Both women are strong, independent and would kick the crap out of anyone that got in their way.
Phoenix unfortunately lacks all of the cool extras that Wonder Woman has. No lasso of truth or invisible jet, but she does have the Glam-Slam.
Although smashing someone's face into the canvas isn't nearly as productive as making them tell you the truth.
CM Punk: Iron Man
8 of 11CM Punk and Tony Stark—do you see it?
Looks aside, Punk has a parallel personality to that of Stark. Both guys are straight shooters who tell it like it is and put themselves before others most of the time.
And they both do these things in very funny ways.
Both men also have a rebellious side to them and are stubborn to a fault.
Let's be honest here for a moment. If Punk came out tomorrow and told you he built his own Iron Man suit and was going to save the world, would you be all that surprised?
Vince/Shane McMahon: Lionel/Lex Luthor
9 of 11McMahon and Luthor are names of power.
The duo of Vince McMahon and his son Shane McMahon match up perfectly with Lionel Luthor and his son Lex Luthor.
Both families want all of the power, and both families will do whatever it takes to get it.
Some of Vince's greatest Lionel moments came in his feud with Steve Austin. Vince portrayed the billion-dollar chairman, which in all fairness he was. He used his power and resources to make Austin's life a living hell. Lionel would use his power and resources to secure whatever it was in his personal or professional life that he wanted.
Shane and Lex both had some of their greatest moments while feuding with their fathers. In Smallville, Lex is actually responsible for the death of Lionel. In WWE, Shane bought WCW out from underneath Vince and tried to destroy his livelihood by running WWE out of business.
I wonder what would have happened if the Luthors had owned and ran WCW.
John Cena: Superman
10 of 11Wherever there is a Luthor, there is going to be Superman.
What is there really to say about John Cena? The man has ridiculous strength. We have seen him hit the AA on men like Big Show, Mark Henry and Khali. We have also witnessed him do fun things like life Edge and the Big Show at the same time.
Speaking of Edge, let's not forget the time Cena hoisted Edge up for the AA on the steel steps and jumped with him on his back and put him through the announcers' table. Then of course there is Superman, who can lift anything, so we have to keep things in perspective here.
Superman is also bulletproof. I am almost certain that Cena isn't.
What Cena is, though, is indestructible. Do you remember the I Quit match between Cena and The Miz? If you missed it, it's okay. The gist is that Miz and Alex Riley beat Cena down for about 20 minutes. Cena never said die and came back out of nowhere, summoning his inner Superman-strength to win the match.
If you cannot find that match on You Tube, feel free to click on any Cena match, because chances are it happened in that match as well.
Superman has one weakness, that of course being Kryptonite. Cena's weakness is much harder to find than the bright green rock fragments that are all over Smallville.
Cena's weakness is the ridiculous loss.
Cena will do things like win every televised match for six months straight or main event eight consecutive pay-per-views while not being WWE Champion. But then he will turn around and lose a match to Big Johnny or Kevin Federline.
It's all good though—not even Superman is perfect. There was that one time when that Doomsday fellow almost killed him.
Conclusion
11 of 11So there you have it.
Just a small taste of what it would be like if WWE were to step out of the ring and into the comics for a day.
What did you think of the pairings? Are there any pairs not named that you think work well together?
