Top 10 Goals of the Week

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira Apr 20, 2009

Before we tuck into this week’s list, and even before we highlight the schmuck of the week, we have a few special bonus treats to bring you.

First up, there is a beauty from a few weeks back from League Two as Danny Hylton’s curled in a stunner for Aldershot against Dagenham & Redbridge (watch here).

Second, another goal was Michael Welch’s unbelievable 70-yard lob for Altrincham against Crawley at the end of last month (watch here).

And, lastly, we have yet another dramatic goal from a scoring goalie as Sao Jose’s Gustavo, playing in Brazil’s Paulista A2, crashed home a vital injury time equaliser against Comercial, as the hosts battle to avoid the drop (watch here).

Onto the schmucks, and this week we were spoiled for choice.

Heading the candidates was PSG goalie Mickael Landreau who, against Dynamo Kiev in the UEFA Cup, scored a soul-destroying own-goal. Attempting to claim an up-and-under in a crowded penalty box, butterfingers Landreau got both hands on the ball before seeing the ball roll pathetically into his own net (watch here).

Next on the chopping block was the referee from Saturday’s match in Belgium between Zulte-Waregem and Kortrijk who made a horrendously bad call in awarding the visitors a penalty. Not only was the offense clearly outside the box but, even worse, there was no foul but, rather, a dive by Kortrijk forward Barbosa (watch here, 1.45 minutes in).

And they keep on coming.

Urawa Reds’ forward Genki Haraguchi had the unfortunate luck of missing a sitter against Kyoto Sanga (watch here). But, after being subbed minutes later, poor Genki made himself look like a complete prat by throwing an uncontrollable hissy fit on the bench (watch here).

But the schmuck of the week award goes to Standard Liege’s Christian Benteke for his bed-wettingly funny attempt at celebrating his side’s third goal with American goalscorer Oguchi Onyewu (watch here, 2.20 minutes in).

Onto the list, where we expect many of you have already seen goals two, three, and nine hit the net over the past seven days.

Of the rest, some spectacular shots from a distance can be seen with goals one, four, six, seven, and nine, while a howitzer of a volley is found at goal nine. Separating itself from the crowd is a super solo goal found in position five.

As usual, all we ask is that you sit back and enjoy!

1. Alessandro Noselli (Sassuolo v Avellino, Apr. 14, 2009) (0.10 minutes in)

2. Alex (Chelsea v Liverpool, Apr. 14, 2009)

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Porto v Manchester United, Apr. 15, 2009)

4. Yonathan Del Valle (Deportivo Tachira v Guarani, Apr. 16, 2009) (0.20 minutes in)

5. Ibrahima Yattara (Trabzonspor v Genclerbirligi, Apr. 17, 2009) (pictured)

6. Andy Dorman (Motherwell v St. Mirren, Apr. 18, 2009) (0.45 minutes in)

7. Roberto Merino (Salernitana v Albinoleffe, Apr. 18, 2009)

8. Achille Emana (Real Betis v Sporting Gijon, Apr. 19, 2009)

9. Raffael (Hertha Berlin v Werder Bremen, Apr. 19, 2009)

10. Robinho (Manchester City v West Brom, Apr. 19, 2009)

Narrowly missing this week’s list were goals from Seydou Keita, Gokhan Inler, Nelson Valdez, Edison Mendez, Paulo Henrique, and Kwadwo Asamoah.
