Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H: Stipulations Guarantee Victory for 'The Game'

Tim DanielsJun 8, 2018

WrestleMania 29 features plenty of intriguing matches, as fans would expect from the biggest show on the WWE calendar. Triple H against Brock Lesnar has a chance to overshadow them all, even though the stipulations basically ensure a triumph for "The King of Kings."

The addition of Shawn Michaels, who will be in Triple H's corner opposite of Paul Heyman, has sent the WWE Universe into a tizzy. Everybody is considering potential swerves that would cost Triple H, leading to a match between the friends next year, although both would be storyline retired.

While that's obviously an interesting idea that would provide a major boost to next year's marquee show, the WWE knew that's what would come from inserting Michaels into the feud. The match needed another variable, and one of the greatest Superstars ever provides it.

In reality, the match should remain a quest to get Triple H back in the win column after high-profile losses to Lesnar and Undertaker.

Make no mistake: Wins and losses are far from the most important thing when it comes to Superstars maintaining their status. But they do matter to an extent, even for a longtime star like Triple H.

For example, look at the cases of The Rock and Lesnar compared to Chris Jericho. All three are part-time Superstars, but The Rock and Lesnar are in huge main event matches while Jericho is in a feud with Fandango, a new gimmick.

While part of that is Jericho's willingness to help younger talent get over, a lot of it has to do with his lackluster booking and losses during his recent returns to the WWE.

By putting Triple H's career on the line and making it a no-holds-barred match, it's supposed to give him the added motivation to get revenge on Lesnar. All that storyline rage will allow the match to become a brawl, making Lesnar look like a monster again while still losing.

Giving "The Game" a victory on the biggest wrestling stage of them all, in a potential show-stealing match no less, would provide the boost he needs to keep playing a key role moving forward.

If past feuds are any indication, Lesnar is probably headed toward another extended absence in the near future. He's brought in for special circumstances, helps sell pay-per-views and gets out. It's not ideal for fans, but it works for the WWE's bottom line.

Triple H is always around. Sometimes he's only doing backstage work, but when they need somebody to fill a main event slot, he's available. Having him lose, thus ending his career barring some type of "unsanctioned" Michaels match, for the sake of giving Lesnar another win isn't the right move.

The good news for the WWE is adding Michaels to the storyline has at least brought that outcome to the forefront. It was basically viewed as a slam-dunk victory for Triple H before that, which is probably why they felt the need to spice it up.

In the end, however, Triple H should still come out on top. It still leaves an entire year to lay the groundwork for a potential WrestleMania encounter with Michaels, wouldn't force him out of other potential feuds, and gives him a much-needed win.
