UFC 155: Favorites to Win the Fight of the Night Bonuses
UFC 155 is rapidly approaching, as the end-of-the-year card promises to bring excitement for MMA fans. The card is headlined by a heavyweight title showdown between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez—a rematch from December of last year.
Also on the card are a number of high quality fights, including Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon and Tim Boetsch vs. Costa Philippou.
Here are the favorites to win the fight night bonuses.
Submission of the Night: Jamie Varner
1 of 3There aren't many fights on this card where I see the fight ending by submission. But if there is a Submission of the Night, I think Jamie Varner will snag it.
Varner is usually a guy who puts entertainment in front of game plan, but I think he is going to want to put Melvin Guillard on the mat. Guillard has suspect submission defense, and Varner could take advantage of that with his wrestling.
Like I said, I don't see many fights ending via submission, so this is really a tossup.
Also in the running: Erik Perez, Jim Miller-Joe Lauzon winner
Knockout of the Night: Junior Dos Santos
2 of 3UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos earned the title over Cain Velasquez with a knockout, and I feel he can retain his title just as impressively as he took it.
Dos Santos is a knockout machine, and his boxing is second to none in the heavyweight division. If he touches Cain's chin cleanly, he has the ability to finish him in devastating fashion.
I really feel that a lot of people are writing off dos Santos in this fight in favor of Velasquez. But Dos Santos is champion for a reason, and I feel his KO power will carry him here again.
Also in the running: Chris Leben, Todd Duffee, Tim Boetsch-Costa Philippou winner
Fight of the Night: Brad Pickett vs. Eddie Wineland
3 of 3A lot of the fights on this card have the chance to win Fight of the Night, but I think the bantamweight encounter between Eddie Wineland and Brad Pickett will persevere.
Both men have historically been exciting fighters. Both are powerful strikers, and both have underrated ground games.
That being said, I think this will be a battle on the feet.
Whoever comes out the winner won't matter (well, it will), because the fans will be the real winners.
Also in the running: Joe Lauzon-Jim Miller, Chris Leben-Derek Brunson, Melvin Guillard-Jamie Varner, Junior dos Santos-Cain Velasquez, Max Holloway-Leonard Garcia
