Pittsburgh Steelers: Winners and Losers from the Loss to the Dallas Cowboys

Joseph BrunoJun 7, 2018

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost another game, this time 27-24 to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and dropped their record to 7-7 on the season.

Regardless of whether or not the Steelers make the playoffs—and there is still a good chance for that—they have shown to be far from a true contending team the way they are playing.

Here are winners and losers from another game in which the Steelers should have won and found a way to lose.

Loser: Josh Victorian

1 of 6

With Ike Taylor still out and Cortez Allen missing the game as well, Josh Victorian got the start opposite Keenan Lewis.

Although Victorian had some good moments, he was victimized pretty much the entire night by Cowboys QB Tony Romo.

I like Victorian’s potential; however, he just did not have a good night all the way around whether in coverage or in run support.

Winner: Heath Miller

2 of 6

Heath Miller has been solid all season and finished the game against the Cowboys with seven receptions, 92 yards and a touchdown.

When nothing else in the offense was working, Ben Roethlisberger seemed to be able to find Heath even when he was well-covered.

Miller never gets the recognition around the league for how good he really is, and even though the Pro Bowl means nothing anymore, he deserves to make the roster.

Loser: Coaching

Yet again, the Steelers looked like they hadn’t had any kind of preparation going into the game on both offense and defense.

The offense came out completely out of sync and the defense might as well have not showed up at all for the game.

There have been too many times the team has looked unprepared and this is just another game that the Steelers should have won but lost.

Loser: Defense

4 of 6

Although not everyone played terrible in the game, I just can’t give anyone praise for that type of performance against the Cowboys.

No one seemed really interested in covering receivers, and it was the worst tackling I’ve seen by the Steelers in a long time.

The defense gave up 415 total yards in the game, and I think Tony Romo just completed a few more passes while I was writing this.

Loser: Receivers

5 of 6

There seem to continue to be lapses in concentration with the Steelers receivers that showed up in more drops by Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders in the game.

Antonio Brown’s fumble on a punt return late in the game really changed the momentum and allowed the Cowboys the chance to tie the game.

Then for no reason whatsoever, Brown fought to get out of bounds when he was clearly short on third down instead of forcing the Cowboys to use one of their timeouts.

Loser: Ben Roethlisberger

6 of 6

It really pains me to have Roethlisberger as a loser here because he really is the only reason the Steelers are ever even in games.

He made some spectacular plays during the game and looked poised to lead the Steelers to a victory until the last drive in regulation.

After a roughing-the-passer penalty put the ball at the Steelers' 46-yard line, Roethlisberger took two terrible sacks that led to a punt.

To top it off after the Steelers won the coin toss in overtime, Big Ben threw an interception to Brandon Carr to help drop the Steelers' record to 7-7.
