Floyd Mayweather and the 5 Cockiest Fighters in Boxing Today

Michael WaltersJun 7, 2018

Floyd “Money” Mayweather is pound-for-pound the best fighter in all of boxing and also the sports supreme leader in talking trash.

The man they call “Money” certainly has a right to be. He is the highest paid athlete in the world and has been a part of the biggest fights the sport has ever seen.

He also has never lost or really had anybody come close to getting the best of him in the ring or on the mic outside of it.

“Money” has even corrected a comment made by HBO announcer Jim Lampley and talked football with the ringside commentators during a fight.

At 43-0 with 26 knockouts, it’s going to take someone really special to get the braggadocios boxer from Grand Rapids to shut his mouth.

The following list is comprised of fighters who may one day take the crown of cockiest fighter in the sport when “Money” retires.

1. Adrien 'the Problem' Broner

1 of 5

I don’t think that currently any fighter so early in his career has ever displayed the level cockiness that Adrien “The Problem” Broner exudes each and every time out.

From his braggadocios tweets to his having his hair brushed in the ring before interviews, the kid from Cincinnati is nothing if not cocky.

The thing that makes Broner so great and so fun to watch is that despite his carefully crafted image, he backs up his big talk in the ring.

In his short career, the “can-man” has had some of the cockiest and most memorable interviews in recent boxing history.

If anyone can take the pound-for-pound cockiest fighter title away from Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr., it may just be the “The Problem.”

2. Paulie 'Magic Man' Malignaggi

2 of 5

Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi certainly has magical abilities in the ring, and I am not just talking about his boxing skills.

The former two-time world champion and self proclaimed “Twitter King” is so cocky that, during his attempt to win the welterweight title, he even tweeted between rounds.

This Hector “Macho” Camacho of the new millennium is so cocky that people often overlook his in-ring ability and forget just what a special boxer the kid from Brooklyn really is.

3. Brandon 'Bam Bam' Rios

3 of 5

Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios is one the most outspoken fighters in the sport today. A few years ago, he caught a lot of heat when video surfaced of the cocky young fighter mocking Freddie Roach’s Parkinson disease.

For most fighters, that would have been career suicide making fun of the five-time Trainer of the Year, but it only seemed to increase the popularity of the slugger from Kansas.

From his post-fight profanity-laced interviews to his ring bravado, the fighter known as “Bam Bam” is definitely one of the cockiest in the sport today.

4. David 'Hayemaker' Haye

4 of 5

David “Hayemaker” Haye is definitely the cockiest fighter the United Kingdom has produced in a long time, and maybe ever.

The cocky Brit, through his gift of gab, talked himself into a record payday against Wladimir Klitschko, and though he looked terrible in defeat, he has once again positioned himself for another huge payday with his mouth for a chance to fight Vitali Klitschko.

To say the Brit is all mouth would be unfair, as he does throw a great “Hayemaker,” and that, along with his swagger, has earned him a spot on this list.

5. Amir 'King' Khan

5 of 5

The United Kingdom’s Amir “King” Khan is another cocky fighter from across the pond. As a former Olympic silver medalist at only 17 and two-time world champion as a pro, the braggart from Bolton certainly had a right to be.

After suffering a devastating first-round knockout, most fighters would probably been humbled but not Khan. He was still just as cocky, and rightfully so, since he went on to win not one, but two world championships after that loss.

More recently, Khan has suffered two straight losses and one by huge knockout to big underdog Danny Garcia, but even in defeat, he is still one of the cockiest fighters today.

Rather than placing the blame for his recent defeats on himself, he has suggested it is the fault of his Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach, now that is cocky.
