What a McDummy

McDummy

The first day of free agency has seen a shake-up of the NFL.  Albert Haynesworth signed a record contract.  Kellen Winslow headed back to Florida.  Philadelphia finally got rid of Lito Sheppard.

One of the more anticipated teams to become active in free agency was the Denver Broncos.  Their defense needed a complete overhaul, especially with the team implementing a 3-4 scheme.

So what did they do?

They signed a long snapper to become the second highest ever paid at the position.

Seriously.

The team signed Lonie Paxton to a five-year, $5.5 million contract, which includes a $1 million signing bonus.  This leaves the incumbent long snapper Mike Leach expendable.

So what has merited Leach to be run out of Denver?  He has never botched a snap.  In fact, he was very reliable when they needed him.

Need evidence?  See the Denver vs. Buffalo game two years ago when Denver won on the last-second field goal.

So why is Leach being replaced?

Mr. Paxton is coming from New England.  Just like Jabar Gaffney, a receiver signed by Denver on Friday as well.

Has Denver seen this before?  Does this look like when Denver hired the former Cleveland Browns defensive line coach?  Remember him?  Remember when he brought in five former Browns to Denver (Ebenezer Ekuban, Mike Myers, Gerard Warren, Kenard Lang, Courtney Brown), creating that nickname “Browncos”?

The day is concluding with the Denver Broncos being fairly active, but in the wrong way.  Denver also signed running backs Correll Buckhalter and J.J. Arrington.

Good thing you are changing the NFL’s No. 2 ranked offense even more, McDummy.

Now, reports are coming out that Denver has signed wide receiver David Anderson from the Houston Texans.  As if Denver needed any more wide receivers with Brandon Stokley, Brandon Marshall, and Eddie Royal on the team.

This no doubt signals the end of Stokley’s tenure with Denver, as Royal and Marshall are both high caliber players.

So how has McDummy addressed the needs of the NFL’s 29th ranked defense?  He has signed Renaldo Hill from Miami.

As of now, Brian Dawkins is meeting with Denver, which would be a great addition to the team.  But as of now, he is just meeting with them.

Josh McDaniels is not impressing anyone on the Denver Broncos message boards right now. Especially with glaring needs at linebacker, defensive tackle, and cornerback.  He instead has opted to pursue players that are cast-offs from their teams for a reason, and the reason is not because they want too much money.

Arrington is supposed to satisfy a kick-returner position in addition to running back duties.  Buckhalter is looking to be the new starting running back.

Did we forget about Eddie Royal and his kick returning abilities?  Royal has exploded on the scene and was mentioned as a Pro Bowl alternate for Leon Washington as a kick returner.

Buckhalter, while a better than average running back, is as delicate as cotton candy.  Need proof?  Since entering the NFL in 2001, he has only played in one complete season, that being 2006.  He has missed three entire seasons to injury (2002, 2004, 2005).

McDummy needs to start using his head for something besides separating his ears.  That includes his brother.

Yeah, I said it.

No one thinks you should have hired your brother to be a quarterbacks assistant. Especially since he has no professional or college experience at all.
