Daniel Bryan: No Title, Still WWE's Most Valuable Player

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 6, 2018

This week on Raw, fans were treated to something very rare—non-wrestling segments that were actually funny and entertaining.

Bryan was sent to anger management class by Raw's GM, AJ Lee this week. The angle consisted of three segments which were shown throughout the show at various points.

The first segment introduced us to Harold, also known as Scorpio Sky to Indy wrestling fans, who would end up playing a bigger part than a normal background talent would play in a WWE skit.

The second segment involved Kane showing up as the Doctor's newest patient, much to the dismay of Bryan.

The third segment is where Kane really shined by running through the entire list of moments from his life that WWE audiences have seen in the past, including his obsession with torturing Pete Rose.

Bryan excelled in these segments and he followed it up with a match against R-Truth which saw both men hit some impressive moves before Bryan was counted out of the match while having a hilarious screaming match with a fan.

Not only has Bryan turned into one of WWE's most entertaining talents after being labeled boring by many in his earlier days in WWE, but he has also become one of the most valuable players in WWE.

There are several facets to Bryan's character that make him one of the most useful people in the company, despite not having a title around his waist.

His in-ring skills are second to none. Bryan has trained under greats such as William Regal and Shawn Michaels and has also taken bits and pieces from everyone's style to make a unique style that is all his own.

The progression in Bryan's mic skills since his initial debut on NXT until now may be the fastest anyone has ever improved in that area in WWE history.

When he first arrived on the scene his credibility in the business made him an instant standout, but his promos were a little bland.

It was not until he became a heel that he really took off. His celebration following his World title win over Big Show turned into a gimmick that we have not seen take off with as much success since Stone Cold's "what" gimmick.

Besides his promos and skills in the ring, Bryan is also a true "Fan Favorite."

In recent weeks Bryan has began getting into confrontations with fans that seem unrehearsed where the fan yells "Yes" and "Bryan" while Bryan responds with "No".

On paper it sounds stupid, but when he is actually having a back and forth with a random fan at ringside you cannot help but be entertained by it.

For the fans Bryan berates, it has to be an amazing experience to not only be on camera, but to be the focal point of a specific moment fans will remember when looking back on the match in question.

On top of his mic skills, fan interactions and in-ring ability, Bryan is also a great role model for WWE's target audience, the youth of America.

His clean-living vegan lifestyle is one that will most likely add years to his career as opposed to the hard-partying ways of some of his peers and mentors.

By keeping himself healthy outside the ring it ensures he will be around inside the ring for longer than someone who chugs beers after every show or indulges in red meat and sweets.

Whenever Daniel Bryan has a match you know you are going to see a wrestling clinic. He elevates everyone he gets in the ring with and makes them look like more talented in the process.

Dolph Ziggler was treading water in WWE until he and Bryan had a series of three incredible matches at Bragging Rights, Raw and SmackDown within the span of six days.

Dolph Ziggler is incredibly talented, but when you put him in the ring with someone equally as talented then you can create magic and that is what he and Bryan were able to do.

When it comes right down to it, CM Punk may have some competition on his hands for the title of best in the world, which is something Bryan Danielson used to be called on the Indy scene.

Whether he has five seconds or 15 minutes of screen time you know Bryan will, as JR would put it, "maximize his minutes".

As a fan, I look forward to seeing what Bryan does every week because he never ceases to impress me with his growth as a performer.

What do you think? Is Daniel Bryan WWE's most valuable player?
