WWE Election 2012: It's Time We Elect Dean Ambrose into WWE Programming

Travis OckermanMay 31, 2018

As I was watching this year’s annual SummerSlam, something popped into my mind and refused to let go of the camel clutch it had cinched in around my thought process.

Although Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio were battling it out across my television screen, I couldn't help but lose focus of the match. Something else had gripped my attention span and refused to let go.

For some reason, I was thinking about Dean Ambrose.

You know, Dean Ambrose, the Prince of the Internet Wrestling Community. The guy that you, I, and everyone we know had been clamoring for; whom we, as a collective, were ready to strap a rocket to and shoot him to the highest point of the WWE Universe.

That Dean Ambrose.

But where did all the hype go? It’s no stretch to say that the “talk” on Ambrose has cooled considerably in the last few months. The thing is, I really don’t understand why.

And that’s why it’s time to reignite the talk about Dean Ambrose; to get the hype train all oiled up and ready to move full speed ahead.

If you’re reading this article, I’m assuming you’re familiar with Dean Ambrose. Back around WrestleMania, Ambrose had a near-perfect feud just waiting in the wings to happen for his debut.

It would have involved Mick Foley, but the prospective feud was never to be, leaving us fans scratching our heads. I couldn't have thought of a better debut for a star of Ambrose’s caliber, at least until now. That is, essentially, why I have decided to write this article.

Throughout the duration of the Sheamus/Del Rio feud for the World Heavyweight Championship, I’ve longed for the insertion of more talent to make the feud watchable.

This may just be my opinion on the matter, but the current feud between Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus has been extremely stale. So stale in fact that I have contemplated fast-forwarding through their appearances on WWE programming lately, and have been put off by their entire feud in general.

So when tonight’s SummerSlam match between the two began, I was yearning for something more. Something that would ignite the brightest of flames to appeal to my interests; flames so powerful, so red, so fiery, that…well, I’m starting to describe Sheamus now.

But anyways, I was looking for something to keep my attention, and although that never happened, I began to dream about an idea that I thought would have been a perfect way to cap off their match.

As soon as the referee counted “1, 2, 3…” and Sheamus was declared the victor, I was dreaming that Dean Ambrose would rise up through the crowd, hop the barrier, enter the ring, and destroy Sheamus with his own belt.

A psychotic throwback to some of the most devious heels of the past, like Jake Roberts, Brian Pillman, and a hint of Roddy Piper, Ambrose would lay out Sheamus, steal his championship belt, and leave the arena the way he came in: through the people.

Ambrose truly is a throwback, playing the role of a loose-cannon, psychotically obsessed individual to an absolute T. Don’t believe me? Then check out his "Broken Heart" promo and prepare to change your tune, good sir or madam.

With the amount of talent that he possesses in and out of the ring, there is not a single doubt in this writer’s mind that he’s capable of heading right to the Main Event from the get-go.

There’s just one problem with that opinion, and it's WWE’s inability to truly promote a talent to the moon from the very beginning. Gone are the days where a superstar debuts straight into a high-profile feud, and most certainly gone are the days when a wrestler debuts to win a title, let alone one as significant as the World Heavyweight Championship.

If there’s one thing that WWE is scared of, it’s putting top-flight talent in the driver’s seat from the moment they debut. This is understandable, though, as the company certainly doesn't want another Brock Lesnar situation on their hands, or a situation in which a wrestler becomes larger than life and ditches the tights for “greener pastures.”

You see, World Wrestling Entertainment is apprehensive of shooting a talent to the moon from the start because they’re scared that said talent may eventually get "too big" for the company and leave.

This happened with Brock Lesnar and somewhat happened with Bobby Lashley, so I can understand the logic. But it’s this sort of logic that I believe WWE should abandon, as taking a shot, so-to-speak, could certainly help ignite the brand.

You may be wondering what I’m getting at, and well, it’s this: WWE should bring Dean Ambrose up to the main roster, place him directly into one of the highest profile feuds (Ahem, Sheamus/Del Rio), and push this talent to the proverbial moon. I’m suggesting this because it’s the shot-in-the-arm that the company needs, and would certainly reignite a feud that has been quite dull lately.

For those who argue that it’s another up-and-coming, surefire-future World Champion’s time (Dolph Ziggler) I say that his time can literally come at any point between right now and next year before his briefcase expires. That’s the beauty of having the Money In The Bank Briefcase, he’s able to cash that in at any moment during the next year.

Because of this, I would find a Ziggler/Sheamus feud for the title boring if it’s next in line because it’s the expected way to go, booking-wise. With the options that Sheamus has for contenders being a laundry list of recycled feuds from the previous two years, I would opt for an injection of Dean Ambrose into the equation.

With a talent as legitimately good as Dean Ambrose, introducing him in any other manner would be a crime of enormous magnitude. This is a superstar that can carry a brand, and he’s someone who could very quickly become WWE’s next great heel.

Heck, he could even become the company’s next great anti-hero, much like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Randy Orton, or a more recent CM Punk, circa-Summer 2011.

It’s time for Dean Ambrose to hit the big stage, but his arrival must be monumental. He can certainly carry the weight, so it’s time for this classic, throwback heel to get to work and become the next great WWE Superstar that we’ve all remained so utterly confident he could be.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Dean Ambrose articles are back.

I'd love to hear opinions on the matter, so be sure to sound off in the comments section below!
