Vanessa Bryant's Comments Prove Championship Expectations Like Hubby Kobe
Vanessa Bryant, the ever silent and reserved wife of Lakers star Kobe, finally uttered some words, and the fallout has been tremendous.
It all started with an interview given to New York Magazine which had far more to do with the sartorial exploits of basketball wives and the glamorous lives they lead than anything serious.
Her comments reached into championship expectations, and that has made all the difference. Here is the snippet of what is causing quite the stir.
"I certainly would not want to be married to somebody that can’t win championships. If you’re sacrificing time away from my family and myself for the benefit of winning championships, then winning a championship should happen every single year.
"
The Basketball Jones covered her winning expectations, as did Yahoo Sports' Ball Don't Lie and the LA Times chimed in, of course.
A myriad of others have sounded off on a sentiment that we really have been hearing for years, only it usually comes from the Black Mamba himself.
Kobe Bryant will be the first to say that every single season is a search for an NBA championship. I don't see what's so shocking about his wife having the same expectation.
Their present troubles aside, she isn't going to kick him out of the house for getting drubbed in the first round, or else he would have been single during the Smush Parker days.
The entire Bryant family doesn't, thankfully, share these feelings. Vanessa Bryant had this to say prior to the quote seen around the world.
Here is the back and forth from writer Vanessa Grigoriadis and Bryant, via New York Magazine.
"Do her daughters like watching the games? I ask. “No, not really,” she says. “It’s two and a half hours, and it’s their dad, and you have to think about their point of view—would your child want to sit there and watch either you or your spouse work?” Do you like it? “Oh, yes,” she says. “I love basketball. And I know what goes on behind the scenes, so I have a different perspective on things, but still, I do.
"
At least the young ladies in Kobe's life are free to run and play without all this championship pressure that seems to be flying around the living room.
The Bryants, ladies and gentleman, is a family that's only really happy when they are winning. It's a good thing they are so successful.
