During the National Anthem on Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, three little birds stood in line along one of the wired ropes that hold the screen behind home plate up.

The birds landed at the beginning of the National Anthem, the one closest to the press box facing left, the next facing right and the farthest facing left.

All three were brown in color and were about the size of a sparrow.

As soon as the National Anthem ended, all three flew past right field, disappearing into the city of Minneapolis.

The game started at 12:11 pm.

It was a beautiful day at Target Field, but a disaster on the diamond.

In the first inning the third Detroit batter, Miguel Cabrera, turned on one of Cole De Vries’ offerings and it left the park the same way the birds had, via right field.

“That one I wanted to go away and I’m getting up a bit,” said De Vries. “If I throw that down, he hits a ground ball.”

It was Cabrera’s 30th home run of the year, tying him with Josh Willingham, Edwin Encarnacion and Curtis Granderson for the third-highest total in the league.

“He’s just an animal,” echoed manager Ron Gardenhire. “He hit that like a left-hander hits it.

“The wind was blowing in from there and he’s just so strong.”

With a man on in the fourth, former Twin Delmon Young took De Vries deep to left and the Tigers went on to win 5-1.

“Pretty much a shutout by their guy [Max] Scherzer,” said Gardenhire, “he’s pretty good.”

The team finished their homestand 1-5.

It’s times likes these when it's important to remember how to enjoy the small things in life, like Ben Revere leading the eighth off with a triple and Joe Mauer driving him in with a single to right-center.

You can panic about where the team is going next year, freak about the trades they made or go apoplectic about the performance of their pitching staff.

Or you can sit back, relax and listen to Marley’s famous lyrics:

Don’t worry about a thing/every little thing is going to be alright

It’s a children’s game after all.
