All Clubs Fail to Meet Arsenal's Valuation for RVP Just 4 Days Before New Season

Simon EdmondsJun 4, 2018

So far, none of the sides that have shown any sort of interest in Holland and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie have been willing to fork out the bar minimum price for which Arsene Wenger is willing to let his best player go.

According to Eurosport.com, the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Italian champions Juventus have, as of right now, failed to lodge a bid of at least £20 million.

Van Persie has made it apparent on more than one occasion that he would very much like to leave London at some point this summer to pursue new challenges elsewhere.

Despite this, Wenger and the rest of the Arsenal back-room staff have made it very apparent that they will not be letting their best player go without a fight.

Despite RVP coming to the end of what most footballers would consider their "prime," and having never been able to shake off an ankle injury that has plagued the 29-year-old for the majority of his career, Arsenal are not willing to let RVP go for anything less than their aforementioned price—even willing to keep what would be an arguably unhappy player on their books for a season longer if nobody meets their demands.

It had been rumoured earlier in the week that current Premier League Champions, Manchester City, had ruled themselves out of the hunt for the striker. But, in a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Man City centre-back and captain, Vincent Kompany, revealed that he would be delighted if van Persie joined the sky blue ranks.

Kompany said:

"

It's very easy to say you want to play next to Robin van Persie. He's a great player. He's proved it so many times last season and any team he would play for he'd make it stronger.

"

However, the real threat for Arsenal fans looking to keep hold of their Dutch superstar comes in the form of old rivals Manchester United.

United have made more attempts than anyone to sign RVP as of today, and have certainly been far from reserved about their desire to bring the man who scored 37 goals last season to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson failed in his attempts to sign Arsenal old boy Samir Nasri last summer, losing out to their foe from across the City.

Could that happen again here?

And what, lest we forget, of the Old Lady of Football's involvement in things? Juventus are a ferociously strong team at this moment, and the addition of a player of van Persie's quality would be more than enough to put them in the hunt for Champions League glory.

Van Persie's current teammate, centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, still reserves hope that his captain will continue to prosper with The Gunners.

Vermaelen said:

"

To me he looks fit and sharp in training. He's working hard. He's working on his fitness. I don't see anything (different) and I hope he stays the next four years as well.

"

A false hope for Arsenal fans, or a genuine good sign?

That's assuming of course that the red and white faithful still want RVP around.

There have been more than a few murmurings of late from The Gunner's supporters who don't feel that—with the recent signings of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud—van Persie is even a necessary commodity at the Emirates any more.

Whatever your view on his presence at the club, one thing is for certain—this story isn't going to go away any time soon.

Although for Robin's sake, I hope this increasingly messy transfer, or lack thereof, happens sooner rather than later.
