WWE SummerSlam 2012: Should the Silver Anniversary Be a Bigger Deal?
WWE is known for patting themselves on the back when it comes to their accomplishments, but the 25th anniversary of SummerSlam is something that deserves more attention than it has received.
When WrestleMania celebrated its 25th anniversary it was a huge deal for WWE and they made sure we all knew about it.
This is not to mention the celebrations WWE has had for Raw's 15th anniversary, 1000th episode and SmackDown's 500th episode.

Let's face it, WWE loves to celebrate themselves and their milestones. So why is the second biggest event reaching the 25 year milestone not a bigger deal?
Sure, the card is stacked with decent matches and there are likely to be a few more added as we go, but the anniversary itself is not getting much attention.
WWE mentions it as the 25 year mark for the event sometimes and the logo for the event certainly makes it clear, but that is where it ends.
WWE has not booked some big musician to perform or numerous celebrities to appear yet and there has not been any buzz on legends making their presence felt either.
If you look back on the 24 previous events it is clear to anyone that WWE could be putting out highlight reels of the best matches and moments like they have for WrestleMania so many times.
Think about all we have witnessed at SummerSlams over the years.
British Bulldog beating Bret Hart for the IC title, the wedding of Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, Undertaker vs. Undertaker and Lex Luger slamming Yokozuna are just a few moments that stick out as memorable.
So I ask again, why is WWE not making a bigger deal out of this?
One answer to that question is that WWE could simply be burnt out on, as DDP would put it, self high-fiving themselves.
With the success of WrestleMania 28, Raw reaching the 1000th episode and the return of Brock Lesnar it could be that WWE is just happy to let things proceed as normal after months of buildups for various events since the start of the year.
You know how there is always that one month where you know about a dozen people with birthdays and at the end of that month you would curse any piece of cake you saw?
That is probably how WWE feels at this point.
Maybe the event itself will feature some flashback clips or reference to the fact that the 25th anniversary is a big deal, but only time will tell.
What do you think? Should WWE be making the 25th anniversary of SummerSlam into a bigger event?
