Pro Wrestling-Themed iPad and Mobile Apps That Fans Can't Live Without
There are two things that pro wrestling fans need more than the newest in wrestling programming. Those two things are their smartphones and tablets.
This often leads to a lot of fans downloading apps to help them feed their pro wrestling obsession while on the go. Whether they are wrestling-inspired games or the best sites to get updated wrestling news, fans are always looking for the best. Well, look no further.
Here is a list compiled with 10 apps for phones and/or tablets that every fan should at least consider downloading. Not all of them are free, but most of them are. Is there anything better than the sound of a good app being free to the public?
With the upgrades in technology, people are often watching television while also being on their laptops, phones or tablets. This is a way for them to interact about what they are watching or to do something to complement their viewing.
Here are the places to go to get your pro wrestling news and entertainment, even if it is while you are watching pro wrestling.
Pro Wrestling Torch
1 of 10Pro Wrestling Torch is among the most respected of the so-called “dirt sheets.” PWTorch features a high quality of pro wrestling news and analysis and is cited as a source in a lot of articles written by Bleacher Report writers.
Since 1987, PWTorch has been a measuring stick for pro wrestling news. Editor Wade Keller is among the most well-known names in the world of pro wrestling news—and for good reason.
Their app is free for Android, the iPhone, the iPod Touch or the iPad.
WrestleFest
2 of 10The WrestleFest video game was known as a legendary game for old-school wrestling fans. Just like anything that was great back in the day, nothing since it has quite been as good, and there is curiosity on how it would be if that thing was updated for today.
Well, that has happened with WrestleFest, as WWE has taken the classic video game and put current superstars in it.
Since its release back in February, the reaction has been incredible. The 1991 arcade game is being remade for iOS devices. There are apparently plans for the game to be released on Android, Microsoft Windows, PS3, PSP, PS Vita and the Xbox 360 in the future.
So, don’t be afraid to pick up a classic game, even if it means trying out the free demo first.
WWE SummerSlam Slingshot
3 of 10If you like the craze of Angry Birds, but don’t like the cost of the apps, maybe SummerSlam Slingshot is up your alley.
WWE has produced Slingshot apps in the past, which include their superstars being launched into the ring Angry Birds-style.
The SummerSlam version is a free and limited version of that type of game, but it is a nice little taste of that type of game for those who are interested in playing one.
WWE Rumblers
4 of 10The line of WWE Rumblers is very popular among kids and adults alike. They are not your average action figures. The short figures are drawn very much like a cartoon and are stuck in pose, short of movable arms.
If the various playsets aren’t quite enough for you, the WWE Rumblers app with Apptivity makes for a unique way to play with your toys.
Just download the free app on your iPad, put your favorite Rumbler figure standing on the screen and have a match by moving your figure around. It combines action figures and action video games. It isn’t perfect technology, but it sure is awesome to see what it can do.
WWE Magazine
5 of 10The WWE Magazine app brings the page-turning content from WWE Magazine and makes it able to be read on your device. The interactivity of the app makes pictures jump out at you and adds to the experience that a simple magazine cannot bring.
It requires that you have a subscription to the magazine, but the app itself is free. If you already own a subscription, it just adds another level to reading the magazine produced by WWE.
Pro Wrestling Report
6 of 10The Pro Wrestling Report is pretty much what every opinionated wrestling fan aspires to be. Hosts Dameon Nelson and David Herro are two very charismatic personas who know their stuff about the squared circle.
From ROH to TNA and WWE, PWR can cover just about everything that has to do with pro wrestling.
There are a few apps available for PWR enjoyment, and all of it is free in the App Store. If you want to know anything about wrestling and entirely avoid spoilers, PWR is an avenue you need to go through.
Wrestling Manager
7 of 10Ever think that you could do a better job at booking a wrestling company than those who really do it? Wrestling Manager, from the people at Serious Parody, allow that to happen.
It works in the format of those trading card games, where you have money and some cards to start that feature wrestlers, venues, match types, storylines, and much more. Put on good shows for profits that can lead to buying bigger and better shows out of it.
If you look at some of the wrestlers drawn up, they may look familiar. The creators suggest that everything used is not directly affiliated to any superstar that actually exists, but some similarities are hard to ignore.
They do it legally, but they allow you to alter things and make it as realistic as you want to. It’s a small fee and the app is available to be used on an iPod touch or an iPad, but it is the best that there is out there.
TNA on Demand
8 of 10It's time to give some love to those hardworking guys at TNA. Even though I don't get to write about them very often, I do have to commend their TNA on Demand app. The app itself is free, but is very limited unless you get a subscription to the VOD.
Still, that price only ranges from $3.95 for a 30-day trial and just under $35 for a year-long subscription. The app by itself gives you videos and news from TNA that you would normally be seeing on their website or YouTube page anyway. The real positives come with a subscription.
There isn't a vast history to TNA, but any show they have ever broadcast is at your fingertips. Every show that was shot in HD is in clear HD.
Tiny quirks, such as not showing the amount of the video that is buffered or the amount of time left in the video, are both not shown. This may simply be due to being spoiled from YouTube videos all these years, but it is an unusual omission.
Forums are on there to chat with other fans and a chat feature that is pretty interactive. Superstars even come onto the chat from time to time, making for a unique experience for a TNA fan.
Street Wrestler
9 of 10In a classic style video game, Street Wrestler is your typical game where you fight enemies as you constantly walk to your right and beat up a bunch of people with fists and a few special moves.
What makes this game unique is that you play a lucha wrestler who is trying to stop an evil lucha wrestler.
There is a lot of subtle comedy that seeps in throughout. Enemies can get trampled by random trains that pass through and a giant pinata throws bombs at you. I'm not making this up.
Another major plus for this app is the art style. The colors are very bright and vivid, making for a very rich visual experience. The soundtrack is just ridiculous, but in a good way. It will make you feel just as amped up as a fighting game should.
The style gets to be a bit repetitive and the story doesn't last very long, but it's a nice download to keep you busy for awhile. At $2.99, it isn't like you are breaking the bank for it.
B/R Team Stream
10 of 10I would be remiss if I didn't mention the free app from Bleacher Report. Team Stream is a great site to keep up with your favorite writers in all of sports that Bleacher Report covers.
Thousands of articles are being posted on the website weekly and everything you can ever want to know from one of the best sports websites around.
For wrestling fans, the B/R Team Stream allows you to have a one-stop shop to check in on WWE and TNA news, while also being able to keep tabs on your favorite sports in the same app.
You can read the best that this site has to offer with our free app that is supported on all iOS devices. Team Stream gives you hand-picked articles from editors to keep you in the know, as well as alerts for breaking news. If you download just one of these apps, make Team Stream the one you get.
I know that sounded very preachy to my own website, but it really is an awesome app and should be owned by anyone who enjoys content from Bleacher Report.
