WWE News: Manager Abraham Washington Hints He's Been Released from the Company

Sharon GlencrossJun 7, 2018

It looks like AW Promotions has gone out of business.

Following AW's ultra-controversial joke about basketball star Kobe Bryant during his commentary on a tag match on Raw two weeks ago, it appears WWE has released the former ECW GM.

Over at his official Twitter account, Washington has strongly hinted in various posts that he has parted ways with the promotion:

Earlier this evening he posted:

"

AWPromotions is no more ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your support and hate, it's been a great run. Now I get to do me which isn't PG!... & thank you for allowing me to speak on your behalf. You guys are the best and I'm glad to call u my friends!

"

The manager, who has been with the company since 2009, then laid into WWE for what he saw as his unfair treatment, noting that management encouraged him to act out, then punished him for doing so.

"

I've offended the wrong people that taught me how to have ATTITUDE It was the that made me bold and now it has turned it's back on me...Let this be a lesson to up and coming talent in the WWE don't try and be great like the Rock or Stone Cold. WWE isn't the same...I remember a time when the WWE didn't care about breaking the mold but now everyone is so afraid of their own shadow.

"

This move is interesting for a few reasons.

While few would have been surprised to see the manager released right after last week's Raw for the Bryant remark, that did not happen. Indeed, it looked like the company had dealt with the issue and moved on: commentators Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole immediately apologized on-air as soon as it happened; a remorseful AW also made an apology over at his Twitter account. It seemed like the matter was over with.

So, what happened? Who knows? Possibly the company caved into pressure from Linda McMahon's campaign team, who are no doubt paranoid about any potential bad press as the former COO gears up for her Senate run in Connecticut. Interestingly, AW has hinted this is the case on his account.

It's also worth noting that, judging by his scathing remarks towards management, AW doesn't seem too concerned about whether or not he burns his bridges.

This may be unwise: after all, McMahon's Senate campaign will be over in a few months, and WWE could potentially bring him back.
