Olympics Medal Tally 2012: Nations That Will Boost Total with Dominant Day 10
After all of the Day 9 2012 Olympic Games medals were handed out, China was once again in the lead of the medal tally. They ended the day with 61 total medals to the United States 60. These two nations have been going back and forth the entire Olympic Games.
Both countries are ready for another medal boost on Day 10, but it is the U.S. that will be more productive and jump back into the lead.
Neither of these powerhouses will be as productive as Russia on Day 10. They are set for a huge day, and should pass Great Britain for the third spot on the medal tally list.
China
Day 10 Medal Predictions: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze
For a nation as dominant as China, three medals is nothing to get overly excited about, but this is still an outstanding day's work.
China is ready for gold in the men's gymnastics rings competition as Chen Yibing will bring his typically flawless routine to the apparatus.
They will turn to a bit of yachting to win a silver with Xu Lijia at the helm of the women's laser radial-one dinghy competition. They are also set to win some hardware in the women's shot put with the powerful Gong Lijiao.
USA
Day 10 Medal Predictions: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 5 Bronze
The United States features a boatload of medal contenders on Monday, but none of them are strong gold favorites.
However, I'm going with Gabby Douglas to continue her epic hot streak and steal gold in the uneven bars over the strong Russian duo of Viktoria Komova and Allya Mustafina.
They have another shot at gold in the men's shooting 50-meter rifle three positions competition with Matthew Emmons. He is ready for a strong showing, but will come up just short of gold and take home a silver.
The U.S. then has a whole host of athletes in position to walk away with a bronze with the equestrian mixed jumping team, Dremiel Byers in the men's Greco-Roman 120 kg category, Jenn Suhr in the women's pole vault and Michael Tinsley in the stacked 400-meter hurdles.
Russia
Day 10 Medal Predictions: 4 Gold, 1 Silver, 3 Bronze
Russia has gold-medal favorites all over the place. We already mentioned Komova on the uneven bars, however, I think she will come up just short and take the silver with teammate Aliya Mustafina walking away with the bronze.
Alexey Alipov in men's trap, Zaur Kuramagomedov in 60 kg men's Greco-Roman wrestling, Yelena Isinbayeva in women's pole vault and Khadzhimurat Akkaev in the 105 kg men's weightlifting will have better fortunes on Monday and all walk away with a gold.
Back in gymnastics, Aleksandr Balandin is strong in the rings and should walk away with at least a bronze, and over on the track, Yuliya Zaripova is ready for a bronze-medal run in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
