WWE: Daniel Bryan, Triple H and 7 Wrestlers That Need to Turn

Andy SoucekJun 3, 2018

Let's get this out of the way: WWE is not going to turn John Cena heel anytime soon.

Fans may be clamoring for it, but it's not going to happen until they find a top babyface to take over for him.

That doesn't mean that the company couldn't turn a few other wrestlers to improve their TV shows in general though.

Right now, there are a handful of babyfaces and heels who are cast in the wrong roles. Some wrestlers are just better naturally suited to play one side.

Ricky Steamboat was a quintessential babyface. The Big Bossman was born to play a heel.

Switching up a couple current wrestlers could help with their characters, and place them in better story lines to help the overall product.

With Monday Night Raw airing for three hours every week, they could use some changes to keep things exciting.

While CM Punk appears to have just turned heel, which should stop the company from making a big turn in the near future, they should already be thinking about who the next one is going to be.

Here are seven wrestlers (who are not John Cena) who should switch their allegiance from heel to face or heel to face.

#7: Santino

1 of 7

Santino is just not funny anymore.

Some may say he never was, but his act is older and staler than three month old bread.

His walk, his unibrow, the goofy haircut—it’s time for it to go. It ran it’s course over a year ago.

His mannerisms have gone from charming to annoying, which is perfect for a heel.

Santino probably won’t ever be pushed as a credible threat (even though he inexplicably holds the US Title), but he was a lot more fun as a pest than a corny goofball.

Kids may love Santino as a good guy, but they love Cena more.

The kids can't have everything they want! Turning Santino to a heel will teach them an important life lesson, and more importantly freshen up his act.

#6: The Great Khali

2 of 7

Many fans would rather have Khali retire, but if he’s coming back after his surgery he should be a heel again.

At one point, Khali was fighting The Undertaker and John Cena in the main events. He even beat them both cleanly!

In a relatively short time though, he’s fallen from a threat to a mid-card comedy act.

In his last match against The Big Show, he didn’t last 30 seconds.

Does anyone remember that? Did Big Show benefit from it at all?

If WWE is going to pay Khali and keep him on the roster, they should at least get more out of him than quick meaningless jobs. Turn Khali back into a heel, have him win some squash matches, and then have some young talent take him down.

Make his losses mean something.

Hopefully Khali fully recovers from his brain surgery, and if he returns WWE should at least attempt to do something more with him than dancing from time to time for Vince's amusement.

#5: Layla

3 of 7

It’s common knowledge that WWE doesn’t know what to do with the women’s division.

For a short time though, they had the act LayCool over.

Layla was pretty good as an obnoxious heel. Now, even though she's the Women's Champion, she’s reduced to dancing (much like Khali) in bad television segments.

Even with the depleted Divas roster, Layla shouldn't be the face of the division. However, WWE could get more crowd reaction from her if she switched back to her old character.

As it is now, no one seems to care about Layla. She has talent, and she's beautiful, but the vast majority of fans just sit on their hands when she comes out.

Time to go back to what worked for Layla.

#4: Jack Swagger

4 of 7

WWE needs to do something with Swagger before it's too late.

Actually, it may already be too late, as he's been buried for so long it's hard to believe he still has a job.

The company would be wise to turn him face and see what he's got.

We've seen that Swagger has charisma, and he showed some good comedy skills while he was the Heavyweight Champion on Smackdown.

He should change up his look a little to help fans forget about his mediocre past couple years.

Then WWE could play him up as a legitimate wrestling bad ass, as he has the actual credentials to play this role.

Like Khali, but even more so, babyfaces don't get anything out of beating Jack Swagger. He is a former world champ who can barely last two minutes against his opponents now.

What's the worst that could happen by turning Swagger face? If nothing else, they could stick him with the Soaring Eagle again and turn him into a comedy act.

Kids like mascots don't they?

#3: Daniel Bryan

5 of 7

Not since The Rock have fans chanted along with a heel so much.

Daniel Bryan is in a weird spot right now, as does anyone really hate him?

His fiancee left him at the altar after all.

Everywhere that Daniel Bryan goes, he gets cheered by a big portion of the crowd. He's just too entertaining and funny in his current role.

With Punk switching to a heel, WWE doesn't need two undersized, charismatic adult male favorites cast as heels.

WWE shouldn't try to cool down the "Yes!" chants by saying Bryan is annoyed by it, they should strike while the iron is hot with the chant and see what they can do with him.

With Bryan's size and wrestling ability, he could play a crowd favorite underdog wrestler or a legitimate submission threat.

Either way, Daniel Bryan's heel run has been good, but a face turn could take him to the next level.

#2: Triple H

6 of 7

Hunter has always been a much better heel than a face.

As a good guy, he's over, but not even close to being in the same league as a Rock or Austin.

HHH has a really corny sense of humor that keeps him from being seen as a cool guy by some of the adult fans.

The most glaring problem for a babyface Hunter, is that he is the storyline COO of WWE, which makes him harder to relate to, and much easier to hate.

In real life, he is one of the highest ranking members of WWE.

The man has millions of dollars, he’s not a D-Generate, he’s upper management.

Hunter doesn’t need top feuds with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. He needs to find some young talent to put over.

The best way to do that is to go back to his no-nonsense, trash talking former self that worked so well in Evolution.

Drop the jokes, drop the smirks and get back to kicking ass.

He doesn’t need to wrestle full time, but when he shows up it should be to make someone’s life a living hell like Vince McMahon did to wrestlers during the Attitude era.

WWE has enough babyface legends, Hunter can still go in the ring, so they shouldn't waste the time he has left being a heroic COO.

#1: Randy Orton

7 of 7

Why would a Legend Killer be a good guy?

If WWE is serious about pushing Sheamus as a top act, they should give him some space to be the top face of Smackdown.

Orton is more naturally charismatic than Sheamus. He’s also much better suited to play a villain. There's been no contest on which one the fans like more.

The two don’t need to share the spotlight on Smackdown. Mysterio can be the No. 2 babyface.

With Alberto Del Rio struggling to stay fresh, Orton should be the top bad guy on the blue brand.

WWE loves to push babyfaces as smiling, happy go lucky guys. But it doesn't work for Orton. He looks and acts like a heel.

He desperately wants to turn, and a motivated Orton may shape up, stay clean, and give even better performances in the ring and on the mic.

With WWE dead set on keeping Cena face for the near future, they should start building up Orton again as their top heel, and stop trying to force him in a role he clearly isn't cut out for.
