Argentina vs Tunisia Olympic Basketball: Start Time, Live Stream, TV Info & More

David DanielsAug 1, 2012

Tunisia's Olympic basketball team is running into Argentina at the wrong time.

While facing off against Manu Ginobili’s crew is always a challenge, the Argentine’s are coming off a loss.

In other words, they're angry.

Sure, Tunisia is also coming off a loss. However, that team isn’t talented enough to do anything about it.

Here is everything you need to know about Argentina vs. Tunisia.

Where: Basketball Arena, London

When: Thursday, August 2 at 9:30 a.m. ET

Betting Line: Argentina by 24 (Bovada)

What They’re Saying

After Argentina's 71-64 loss to France, Manu Ginobili talked about how difficult it was to defend his NBA teammate Tony Parker (via ESPN):

"

He's one of the best players in the world so we knew he was going to be a tough matchup. We controlled him pretty well for three quarters, down the stretch he kind of got away with a couple of plays but he's so talented that can happen.

"

Fortunately for Argentina, Tunisia doesn’t have a scorer nearly as explosive as Parker.

Tunisia is anything but a powerhouse, but the Associated Press reports that this squad won’t back down from a fight against Ginobili and company.

After his team's 110-63 loss to Team USA, starting forward Makram Ben Romdhane said (via New Jersey Star-Ledger): “It's a dream for us to see these kinds of players, but now we play with them.”

Most Important Player to Watch: Makram Ben Romdhane

Once again, Ben Romdhane is Tunisia’s only hope to stick around. He dropped 22 points and hauled in 11 boards against the U.S, and proved that he’s capable of competing against the best.

However, if Ben Romdhane doesn’t show consistency, brace for another blowout.

Argentina’s forwards, Carlos Delfino and Andres Nocioni, weren’t spectacular vs. France. The duo combined for just 10 points and eight boards. Ben Romdhane must take advantage of that weakness.

Key Matchup: Pablo Prigioni vs. Marouan Kechrid

Prigioni is a playmaker for Argentina, and dished out eight assists against France. His ability to create open looks for his teammates could determine whether we’re talking about a close game or a massacre in the fourth quarter.

Kechrid can give Tunisia a huge lift by shutting down Prigioni and providing his own offensive spark. He isn’t afraid to shoot the three-ball, either. Kechrid has launched 15 in the Olympics thus far—only five of which went down. He must connect on those shots from downtown if he wants to compete for more than one quarter.

Prediction

Maybe Tunisia could have given Argentina a scare if the South Americans had defeated France. In that situation, the team might have entered the contest with an emotional hangover.

However, having been woken up by defeat, this team will be as focused as ever.

Tunisia simply doesn’t have the talent to match up with a focused Argentina team. The entire starting lineup is made up of NBA players. Meanwhile, no player on Tunisia's roster has NBA experience. Expect nothing less than annihilation.
