Tottenham Hotspur Reject Real Madrid's £30M Bid for Luka Modric

Ryan DayAug 1, 2012

As if Luka Modric needed one more straw on the camel of frustration's back, Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the latest bid for the midfielder—this time it's a £30.4 million offer from Real Madrid.

According to The Telegraph, the latest offer from Real Madrid represents the original £24 million they bid earlier in the summer along with another £6 million spread out over the duration of the five-year contract they've offered Modric.

Credit Daniel Levy for sticking to his guns on this one, but is Tottenham's valuation of Modric at £40 million reasonable? Certainly, £40 million would help new manager Andre Villas-Boas rebuild Spurs' roster, especially considering they missed out on the very, very lucrative Champions League.

But if Paris St. Germain doesn't pony up and pay the £40 million like Levy believes they will, what then?

Modric, who is not taking part in Tottenham's U.S. tour, has so far been the biggest headache for Villas-Boas.

ESPNUK reported that Spurs' new manager has said that the 26-year-old "needs to get his head right before he will be integrated back into the squad. He is a Tottenham player obviously, but he has to be in good mental condition to return to our training because his colleagues are one level up in terms of preparation and fitness."

Will Tottenham slot him into the starting lineup? What if Modric holds out and refuses to play? Does Villas-Boas tell him to stay home? That certainly wouldn't be good for Modric, losing a year's worth of pay and a year's worth of training. What if Villas-Boas demands a cut
