Should WWE's Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio Feud End?
Not every pro wrestling feud can provide us with must-see TV.
For some reason or another, some feuds will work and make us want to tune into Raw or SmackDown every week, while others will damn near bore us to death.
My apologies to Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus, but I think I’m one second away from dying because you guys haven’t given me any reason whatsoever to make me care about your feud.

OK, well maybe that’s the creative team’s fault. But either way, you get the point.
When I tune into WWE programming each week, creative gives me a reason to care about what’s going on between John Cena, Big Show and CM Punk. It gives me a reason to care about Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho. It gives me a reason to care about Daniel Bryan’s character.
Yet, there is nothing about the feud between Del Rio and Sheamus that makes me even remotely interested in what has been one of the most poorly booked major rivalries of the year.
Yeah, Del Rio is the No. 1 contender for Sheamus’ World title. But beyond that, who the hell cares?
After all, this atrocious feud has essentially been dragging on since before Over the Limit way back in May.
It was at that pay-per-view that Sheamus was supposed to defend his title against Del Rio, and he did. But it came in a Fatal 4-Way Match that also involved Chris Jericho and Randy Orton.
Fast-forward to the June PPV, No Way Out, where Del Rio was scheduled to finally get his one-on-one match with Sheamus for the World heavyweight title.
But just before their first PPV singles match could happen, Del Rio suffered a concussion, which forced him to be removed from the match and be replaced by Dolph Ziggler.
At this point, what little interest we had in this feud had all but been blown to smithereens. It seemed as if the WWE was purposely dragging things out in order to avoid coming up with any more storylines in SmackDown’s main event scene.
Of course, this didn’t prevent the WWE from dragging this feud out even further by having Del Rio face Sheamus for the World title at July’s Money in the Bank PPV.
As for the match itself? Awful.
While I at least expected Sheamus and ADR to give us a good match, because they’re both well above average in the ring, that didn’t even happen.
The match was slow and plodding, and the live crowd—just like me—couldn’t care less about what was going on.
No one ever considered Del Rio to be a serious threat to Sheamus’ World title reign, so we were all just waiting for what was a painfully boring match to be over with.
That Money in the Bank match ended like we all expected (with Sheamus retaining), and most of us thought that this was it—that we could finally move on from Sheamus vs. Del Rio.
Oh, how wrong we were.
Even though Rey Mysterio returned to the WWE a couple of weeks ago by attacking Del Rio, the creative team apparently insists that ADR must stay in pursuit of Sheamus and the World heavyweight championship.
On last week’s SmackDown, ADR won a Fatal 4-Way match to become the “new” No. 1 contender for Sheamus and the World title.
I just have one question: Why?
There is literally not one wrestling fan I’ve come across who has been genuinely entertained by this ADR/Sheamus feud, which—dare I say it?—is shaping up to be the worst major rivalry of 2012.
This rivalry should matter for the simple fact that it involves the second-most prestigious title in the company. But it doesn’t. At all.
No one cares about the incredibly stale Del Rio, his fancy cars or his newfound aggressive style. Heck, Sheamus is one of the most over performers in the WWE right now, but even he’s struggling to make us care about anything he does that also involves Del Rio.
And it’s simply because creative has done such a terrible job of booking this feud.
I mean, how many times have Sheamus and ADR cut great promos about each other, much less had a promo battle in the ring?
What has ADR done besides attack Sheamus a handful of times? Why should we even view ADR as a legitimate threat to Sheamus when he hasn’t been able to take the title from him at any point over the last three months?
Gosh, it’s borderline infuriating to think about how little effort the creative team has put forth into this feud, and thus, how little the average fan cares about it.
Sheamus is still over like rover, and now Mysterio is involved in the rivalry, which are the only two things keeping this feud afloat.
Other than those, though, the WWE has completely dropped the ball with what could have been a pretty good rivalry between two of the biggest stars.
It’s time for ADR and Sheamus to move on to something else ASAP.
Well, I guess if we’re going to be accurate here, it was time for both men to move on a long time ago.
