WWE: 7 Reasons AJ Will Be a Great General Manager

Drake OzJun 6, 2018

The new general manager of Monday Night Raw isn't Ric Flair or some other former WWE superstar.

In a shocking twist, it's 5'3", 100-pound "crazy chick" AJ Lee.

On last week's historic 1,000th episode of Raw, AJ spurned Daniel Bryan at the altar and accepted a "proposal" from Mr. McMahon to run the WWE's flagship show.

McMahon's decision to name AJ as Raw's new GM was a shocking one that has a lot of people talking.

Some seem to love the move, while a select few aren't crazy (see what I did there?) about it.

But don't worry because I have faith that AJ will succeed in her new role as the boss on Monday nights.

Here are seven reasons why AJ will be a great general manager.

7. The WWE Is Firmly Behind Her

1 of 7

AJ has something that every WWE star would love to have: a push.

While she may not be spending much time actually competing in the ring, it's blatantly obvious that the WWE is firmly behind her as an on-screen character.

The creative team has showed a lot of faith in AJ over the course of 2012 by essentially making her the centerpiece of a number of storylines.

She was a fixture in Daniel Bryan's World title run and feud with The Big Show, a key factor in the WrestleMania 28 match between Bryan and Sheamus and the main focus of the WWE Championship feud between Bryan and CM Punk.

The WWE has made it a point to push AJ, which was clear when she was named the Raw GM.

I feel pretty confident that creative will make sure that AJ's push continues and that she stays over because they've worked so hard to elevate her over the first seven months of 2012.

Do you think the WWE would book AJ's character so well only to name her the GM and then stop doing that?

I don't.

Given AJ's recent monster push and the fact that WWE officials are firmly behind her, she's lined up for success as one of the best booked characters on TV in her new GM role.

6. Her Acting and Mic Skills

2 of 7

AJ is one of the the best performers in the WWE.

The wrestling word is filled with people who can't act or cut promos to save their lives, but AJ has become pretty damn good at both.

No, I don't think she's going to win an Oscar or anything like that.

But I'd take AJ's acting and promo skills over any Diva in recent history, and in fact, I think that she's a better and more believable character than most male superstars in the WWE.

She knows how to talk, and she's fantastic with her facial expressions, which are essentially two of the main things I look for out of a general manager.

A GM has to be able to work the mic and has to be able to believably react during interactions with both heel and baby face superstars.

AJ can do both of those things, and she can do them extremely well.

And that, of course, hasn't always been the case when it comes to the WWE's general managers.

5. AJ Brings a Welcome Change from Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis

3 of 7

I enjoyed watching John Laurinaitis as the Raw GM primarily because of the unintentional comedy that followed anytime he did, well, anything.

But I don't exactly miss him, nor do I miss Teddy Long.

Laurinaitis became so overly involved with the WWE's top storylines that I felt consumed by Laurinaitis overload. Meanwhile, all Long did was make tag team matches, playa.

Both of their shticks got really tired really quickly, and it didn't take long for me to want to see them off of my TV. Permanently.

That's where AJ comes in.

She may not end up being the best GM in history, and I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't last very long in that role.

But at the very least, she's not Teddy Long, and she's not John Laurinaitis.

That's a good thing, folks, because AJ should be bring a much-needed refreshing change to the Raw GM position.

4. She's a Better Option Than Any of the Other Recent Ones

4 of 7

AJ herself may not end up being the greatest Raw GM in history.

But by comparing her to some of the previous ones, we might realize how lucky we are to have her a the current GM.

The list of recent Raw GMs includes John Laurinaitis (funny, yet still bad), Bret Hart (awful and forgettable), the anonymous Raw GM (one of the worst storylines ever) and the endless line of special guest stars.

The common link between those Raw GMs? They all sucked.

In their own unique way, they made Raw a lot tougher to watch, and I would never want to see any of those four come back as the GM.

Although AJ probably isn't going to do anything monumental that will make her run as GM so spectacular, at the very least she's going to be better than any of the other recent ones.

How's that for an optimistic outlook?

3. She's Already over

5 of 7

When you bring in a new GM that the WWE fans aren't familiar with, it can take them a while to react to that GM, whether that's in a negative or positive way.

Unless it's a big name being brought in, the fans aren't going to just instantly boo or cheer someone.

As evidenced by John Laurinaitis' struggles to generate a genuine reaction early on in his TV run (his initial boos were for being so terrible on the mic), you can't simply expect a GM to instantly be over.

Thankfully, that won't be a problem for AJ.

She is undoubtedly the most over female performer in the WWE, and at least right now, she probably generates one of the three or four biggest reactions in the company.

Thus, the WWE doesn't have to work as hard in its initial phases of AJ's run as GM to get her over with the fans.

She's already over in a major way.

The fans love her and will react to anything and everything that she does, which makes the creative team's job a hell of a lot easier.

2. She's Fair and Impartial

6 of 7

Judging by AJ's first night as Raw GM on Monday, she's going to be pretty fair and impartial.

Yes, she put her ex-boyfriend Daniel Bryan in a match with Sheamus. But she also showed no favoritism whatsoever toward heels or faces in the WWE Championship picture.

She gave John Cena (a face) and Big Show (a heel) the opportunity to earn a WWE title match at SummerSlam, and when CM Punk interfered in the match between the two, she revealed that both Show and Cena would face Punk at the pay-per-view.

Although AJ appears to be more of a baby face than a heel, she doesn't seem to be favoring one side more than the other.

That's a welcome change from past GMs.

Time after time we've seen heel GMs do everything that they could do to make life miserable for the show's top baby faces, while we've also seen baby face GMs go after the show's top heels.

But I expect a little bit of both from AJ, which is the way it should be.

Just do your job the way it should be done rather than showing favoritism for either the heels or the faces. It makes things a lot less complicated.

1. The Unpredictability She Brings to the Table

7 of 7

It's been so far, so good for AJ's stint as the Raw GM.

But let's just be honest with ourselves: She brings lot of unpredictability to the table.

For the past several months, AJ has developed a reputation as a "crazy chick" who will do anything to get noticed and constantly changes her mind on what she wants.

As sane as she seemed on this week's Raw, she's spent most of 2012 doing crazy, unexpected things.

While the WWE could choose to move on from AJ's crazy persona, I think it would be wise to keep her around in that role because of that unpredictability that accompanies it.

It could be fun to have AJ as the seemingly bipolar GM who does so many ridiculous things that you never know what's coming next.

Things would be very interesting on Raw if AJ's "crazy chick" gimmick continued and she threw us for a loop each and every week.

Hopefully, that's exactly what happens.
