Real Madrid Transfers: 5 South American Talents the Club Should Look at Signing
The hotbed of South American football is currently thriving, with many of the continent's top talents likely to feature at the upcoming Olympics.
Real Madrid are yet to make a major splash in the summer transfer window (the Luka Modric deal is not yet done). However, there is an obvious need and desire to enhance the squad ahead of the coming season.
The Olympics will be a great stage for many of South America's best young talent. And with most of the rising stars likely to move to Europe in the near future, the Bernabeu and the young core at Real Madrid would be an excellent destination and fit.
There's no surprise at this stage that Brazil are catching most of the attention—their squad's undeniable potential is accentuated by the huge price tag placed on their heads.
But the talent on the continent is not limited to just the Selecao, with Argentina and Uruguay also lining up with some of the most coveted talents in world football.
Leandro Damiao
1 of 5Leandro Damiao would be one of the ideal options to fill a void should one of Real Madrid's strikers leave.
While it's now unlikely that there will be any great disruption to the Madrid attack, Leandro fits the profile of a striker who would flourish at the Bernabeu.
Leandro is strong and has a presence at the point of the attack, while also being regularly deployed as a lone striker.
His ability to hold the ball up and to find the net means he would easily excel in Jose Mourinho's system.
With the talent currently on display at Madrid, there's little reason why Leandro can't be a successful striker in La Liga.
Lucas Ocampos
2 of 5Playing in the second division is hardly ever going to bring about a number of positives.
It's especially difficult to find that silver lining when you're one of the more high-profile clubs in South American football.
But River Plate's relegation has allowed them to dip into their youth system, releasing one of their gems into regular first-team football.
Lucas Ocampos may still be a few years shy of turning 20, but he's already gained a huge following and drawn a number of comparisons with other greats of the game.
Ocampos' age means a switch to first-team La Liga action may be premature. But the player is currently an excellent prospect for Jose Mourinho to consider.
Oscar
3 of 5There's no reason why Real Madrid—or indeed any other club—couldn't announce themselves as a potential destination for this exciting midfielder.
Oscar has revealed that he's completed a medical at Chelsea. However, he's yet to put pen to paper.
With the midfielder opting to wait for the conclusion of the Olympics to make his decision, there is still room for others to express an interest.
Oscar will operate in a deeper position for Brazil this summer, but his game excels with him farther up the field.
Paulinho
4 of 5The powerful Corinthians midfielder Paulinho is not far off from a move to Europe.
His inclusion in the Brazil squad is sure to raise the attention of many clubs, as well as heightening the interest in many more.
A combative player who operates deeper in the midfield, Paulinho is excellent in the defensive aspect of the game.
With the ability to play a role in the attacking phase of the game as well, Paulinho's presence would be a great addition to any club.
Lisandro Lopez
5 of 5Though he shares the same name with Lyon's striker, the Argentina-based Lisandro Lopez operates at centre-back.
The defender has come to prominence in recent times, establishing himself as a key figure in the Arsenal de Sarandi side.
He's powerful, good on the ball and able to serve as a threat from set pieces.
His performances have also led to the player earning two caps for the Argentina national squad.
His youth and ability to be a first-team option would undoubtedly attract clubs like Real Madrid. Interest in the player hasn’t gone amiss in Europe, with Porto announcing themselves, among others.
