Jose Canseco Wants an Apology? Excuse Me While I Go Laugh in His Face

Kimberley NashFeb 18, 2009

It would seem that Jose Canseco feels he is owed an apology by Major League Baseball. He believes that he has been thrown under the bus and publicly vilified for telling what we all NOW are finding out is the truth about steroid use in baseball. He wants credit for saying it loudly and proudly and being the first to do so.

Um, Jose, did you get hit on the head with a fly ball or something? Wait, you did, didn't you? Okay, well, let me explain something to you then—you don't get extra credit for being first at the buffet for losers.

Sure, you said four years ago that steroids were a big thing in baseball. As I recall, you stated that steroids was good for the sport. A direct quote from your book Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big was: "What I'm hoping is that some more intelligent, forward-looking voices will come out and urge baseball to embrace the potential of steroids—to fight for their place in the game, and in our lives."

Are you kidding me? Why should anyone be apologizing to you for being the steroid advocate? Note to Jose: Steroids aren't perceived as good where most baseball fans are concerned. No, they are a very bad thing.

You took steroids. You lied about it. You can fry like the rest of them for all I care.

If anything, I think you might be angry that you can't write any more tell-all books about who is using and how much. The media has taken this story with Alex Rodriguez, and it is now just a matter of time before the other 103 names are exposed, giving baseball detractors, lovers, and journalists enough material to last for the next five years.

You did it first? That's a phenomenal distinction; I hope that makes you feel good at night as you polish your unearned and undeserved AL MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Silver Slugger Awards. I truly do.

Don't get me wrong Jose; you definitely did an honorable thing by writing that book and naming some names and letting us all know that, "Every baseball player and pro athlete will be using at least low levels of steroids. As a result, baseball and other sports will be more exciting and entertaining. Human life will be improved, too. We will live longer and better. And maybe we'll love longer and better, too. We will be able to look good and have strong, fit bodies well into our sixties and beyond. It's called evolution, and there is no stopping it."

I, for one, appreciate your candor.

Get real, guy; you don't deserve any apologies from anybody. If anything, you should have your head examined again. I think that fly ball did more damage than any of us could have imagined.
