UFC on Fuel TV 4: What We Learned from Rafael Dos Anjos vs Anthony Njokuani
In a lightweight battle that featured an interesting clash of styles, grappling specialist Rafael dos Anjos had little difficulty in defeating an excellent striker in Anthony Njokuani.
Not only did dos Anjos dominate when the fight hit the mat but he more than held his own on his feet and was even able to land a solid left hand that sent Njokuani to the mat. Dos Anjos has looked more impressive in each UFC bout as of late, and he is quickly climbing the 155-pound ladder.
What We'll Remember about this Fight
Dos Anjos is a scary fighter if you don't have a complete skill set.
Njokuani is excellent on his feet, but dos Anjos was good enough to stay out of trouble, and when the fight hit the ground, the two fighters were in completely different leagues.
This fight featured a dominating performance from dos Anjos, and he looks like he's ready to take on a top 10 lightweight.
What We Learned about dos Anjos
As long as dos Anjos continues to improve his striking, he's going to be tough to beat.
Not only did the Brazilian prove that he's become a solid striker, his ability to use his technique and raw power against the cage to get the fight to the mat was extremely impressive.
Dos Anjos could easily be undefeated in the Octagon if not for a couple of cases of bad luck in fights against Clay Guida and Gleison Tibau, and it's about time he gets another big-name opponent.
What We Learned about Njokuani
While that wasn't a great performance, Njokuani had a few moments where he showed he could hang with top-notch competition.
Njokuani spent a lot of time fighting off the takedown attempts of his opponent, and he had some success before eventually getting dragged to the mat again and again.
It appeared that Njokuani injured his right hand early in the bout, and if that's the case, it would have seriously damaged his chances at winning.
What's Next for dos Anjos
Dos Anjos looked fantastic when he was dominating from the top position, but it would be fun to see how he would do against a solid wrestler who can hang with him on the mat.
A fight against Evan Dunham sounds like a great test for both of these rising lightweights.
What's Next for Njokuani
It almost seems silly to propose this fight be made again, but it would be really fun to watch Njokuani fight Paul Taylor.
The two have been set to fight twice over the last year, but both times Taylor has been forced out of the bout with an injury.
Hopefully the third time is a charm, and we can watch these exciting strikers throw down.
