Danell Leyva, John Orozco and US Men's Gymnastics Team Looking for Redemption
The U.S. men's gymnastic team has been up and down this year at the 2012 London Olympics, but there is still plenty of reason not just to watch the Americans, but to expect them to make noise in their remaining events.
Five men were selected as the primary representatives of the USA, including 2008 Olympic medalist Jonathan Horton.
Horton, 26, won two medals in the 2008 Olympics: a silver in the high bar and a bronze in the team event. He is the only true veteran of the five and the only one who came to London with an Olympic medal.
Jake Dalton, 20, is a junior at Oklahoma who is the reigning NCAA all-around champion. He excels at the floor exercise and the vault.
Sam Mikulak, 19, is a sophomore at Michigan and was the NCAA champion in 2011. He brings an all-around game to the team and is expected to do big things in London.
Danell Leyva is a 20-year-old Cuban immigrant who has plenty of medals to his name, although they haven't come from the Olympics.
He's the 2011 U.S. all-around champion and has captured the U.S. gold medal in the parallel bars the past three years. He was also the world champion in the parallel bars in 2011.
You also have John Orozco, 19, who beat out Leyva for the U.S. all-around gold medal this year. He also won the silver medal this year on the horizontal bar.
Leyva and Orozco posted the best combined scores from nationals and the trials this year.
As you can see, all five gymnasts bring a lot to the table, and each one has as much potential as anyone in the field to win gold. The ultimate goal was for the U.S. to win the gold medal in the team event.
Despite their failure, they are all looking for redemption but that won't stop each member from going for it all in individual medals.
