Ray Allen: Why Jason Terry to Celtics Means Allen Is Even More Likely to Re-Sign
Ray Allen is back, basically.
The Boston Celtics are reportedly on the verge of signing shooting guard Jason Terry. But the Jet isn’t being brought in to be Allen’s successor. He’ll instead be his backup and because of that, Allen is more likely re-sign than ever.
Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported the news on Tuesday.
"Celtics are in final discussions on terms of a multi-year deal with Mavericks free agent guard Jason Terry, sources tells Yahoo! Sports.

Feel free to throw a party, Celtics fans.
Allen isn’t going anywhere. Spears reported on Sunday that Doc Rivers said the Celtics planned on re-signing Allen and pursuing Terry.
On Allen’s end, why wouldn’t such a move increase the likelihood that he re-signs? Instead of being forced to watch Keyon Dooling brick threes when he goes to the bench, he’ll get to watch Terry protect the lead that he helped build. Sure, he may have to give up a few minutes, but he’ll turn 37 years old next season and he seemed ready to sacrifice minutes to join a contender like the Miami Heat anyway.
Now that the whole crew is back—Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett—Boston will be in position to contend for a title once again. Allen won't pass that up.
And is it just me, or did the Celtics just go from having the most pitiful bench in the league to one of, if not the best? Next year, their second unit will feature the likes of Terry, Avery Bradley—and assuming Brandon Bass is re-signed—Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo. Oh yeah, and don’t forget Jeff Green.
At his age, Allen will be determined to sign onto a contender. With that revamped rotation, Boston definitely falls into that category.
