Steve Nash Rumors: Phoenix Suns Must Not Delay Contract Offer to Hall of Fame PG
If the Phoenix Suns want any hope to retain Steve Nash, they must put an offer on the table.
Update: Tuesday, July 3 at 9:10 a.m. ET
It seems the Suns have made a pitch to Nash, but it's for an insulting amount of money. Paul Calvisi of the KTAR radio station out in Phoenix found that the organization does not seem serious about holding on to its star player.
"Suns Update:Trusted source informs me that Phx Suns offer to Steve Nash currently stands at = 2 years, $12 million.
— Paul Calvisi (@PaulCalvisi) July 2, 2012"
If this offer is for real, and the Suns do not plan to go much higher on the dollar figure or years, it's almost guaranteed that Nash will sign somewhere else this summer as an unrestricted free agent.
---END OF UPDATE---
According to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic, Phoenix has yet to reach out to the 38-year-old with any set offer as of Tuesday and has only had a single discussion since Saturday night.
"The #Suns & Nash have talked once since Saturday night. Suns source said no formal or informal offer has been made.

Considering that Nash is adored by the fans, puts butts in the seats and almost dragged the team into the playoffs despite not having a 20-points-per-game scorer on the roster, it’s borderline disrespectful that he hasn’t received a serious offer.
This is just a poor negotiation tactic from an organization that will be irrelevant for the next two to three years if it decides to let Nash walk away.
While Phoenix did draft Kendall Marshall of UNC to eventually take the reins of the offense, backing up a future Hall of Famer and learning from arguably the best passer to ever live would do wonders for his development.
Nash is already mulling over a three-year, $36 million offer from the Toronto Raptors (per ESPN.com). On top of being a significant financial promise, that allows the Canadian hero to return to the country he calls home.
The Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks are all highly interested in acquiring Nash’s services and will be meeting with him if they haven't already during the opening stages of free agency.
Because of his legendary work ethic, impressive skills and veteran leadership, the Suns cannot afford to let Nash walk. He means too much to the organization, and it’s appalling that Phoenix has not made a “Godfather” offer to his camp yet.
Expect the Suns to make one soon, or NBA fans will certainly see Nash finish his career in a different city.
