After Dealing for Joe Johnson, What Other Moves Will the Brooklyn Nets Make?

Maxwell OgdenJun 7, 2018

The Brooklyn Nets have made their first move toward legitimacy in the East, trading a slew of role players and a protected first-round draft choice for All-Star shooting guard Joe Johnson.

The question is, what will come next for the Nets?

With stars remaining on the market and valuable role players always present, the Nets are likely to remain active in this time of change. The options are endless and the necessities are without limit, so who's coming to Brooklyn?

Who will complement Joe Johnson? Will the obvious choice be the actual signing?

All of those questions and more will be answered in the following slides.

Sign Deron Williams

1 of 6

According to Chris Broussard of ESPN.com, Deron Williams will meet with both the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks.

As for who he's leaning toward, the Mavericks fear Williams is favoring the Nets, as Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports.

Fortunately, for Nets fans, the Mavericks' fears are likely to come to fruition.

Williams will enter a situation in Brooklyn where Joe Johnson lightens the perimeter scoring load in a major way. He'll also face the possibility of teaming with Brook Lopez, whose contributions over the span of a full season could be major with spread-the-floor stars on the perimeter.

While Dallas has the greater individual, Brooklyn may have the greater situation. Deron Williams is staying with the Nets.

Re-Sign Brook Lopez

2 of 6

According to Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork, the Brooklyn Nets have made a qualifying offer to big man Brook Lopez, and the 10th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft is likely to re-sign with the Nets.

As Andy Vasquez of The Record first reported in April, Lopez plans on rewarding the Nets for their persistence:

"

Brook Lopez made it very clear that he wants to stay with Nets. Said he hopes to be back on the basketball court within a month.

— Andy Vasquez (@andy_vasquez) April 27, 2012"

This was months ago and very little has changed since then. Lopez is a valued player for the Nets organization, and they intend on creating a "Big Three" with him, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams—an intention that will result in execution.

Sign Jason Kidd

3 of 6

Wherever Deron Williams goes, Jason Kidd will follow.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Kidd has expressed a keen interest in playing with Williams. This comes as a result of Kidd's friendship with D-Will as well as a belief that the two can play well off of each other.

"

"My days of playing 38 minutes are over," said Kidd, 39, adding that he'd be okay with being a backup for the first time in his career. "We (Williams and I) could play off each other and hopefully be successful."

"

Nets fans are very familiar with what Kidd can bring to a team. Even at 39, the future Hall of Famer is an excellent passer who rebounds and defends better than most players at his position. With a lightened workload and a positive atmosphere to play in, those remaining traits could be utilized to the fullest extent.

Williams is coming back to Brooklyn, so Jason Kidd is riding along, too.

Bring over Bojan Bogdanovic

4 of 6

According to Colin Stephenson of The Star Ledger, Bojan Bogdanovic could be coming to the NBA. The 31st pick in the 2011 NBA Draft was acquired via trade by the then-New Jersey Nets, which has Billy King feeling as if the Nets could finally bring him over in 2013.

With the Nets investing big money in Joe Johnson, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, that could be the best move to make.

Sign Mirza Teletovic

5 of 6

According to Marc Stein and Chad Ford of ESPN.com, the Brooklyn Nets have "serious interest in Bosnian free agent forward Mirza Teletovic to add additional frontcourt depth."

As is the case with Bojan Bogdanovic, this low-cost acquisition is likely to be coming overseas.

Teletovic went undrafted in the 2007 NBA Draft, but maintained a level of notoriety for his play overseas. With the Nets unlikely to be able to afford Kris Humphries, it appears he has become the best solution for depth at the 4.

Re-Sign Gerald Green

6 of 6

Gerald Green burst onto the scene in 2012, putting up big numbers and stealing our hearts with gravity-defying dunks.

Just a few months later, the D-League success story may be just outside of the Nets' price range.

According to Stefan Bondy, all Billy King could offer Green was the veteran minimum.

"

Cleaning out my notebook: Billy King said today he tried to sign Gerald Green to a multi-year deal but could only offer vet minimum.

— Stefan Bondy (@NYDNInterNets) May 1, 2012"

Forgive me for my relentless optimism, but I still believe Green will be re-signed. The Nets took a chance on him when no one else would, and Green will reward them for such a leap of faith with the signing of a one- or two-year deal.
