Ilkan Karaman to Brooklyn Nets: Video Highlights, Analysis and Scouting Report

Bryant KnoxJun 7, 2018

Ilkan Karaman, the Brooklyn Nets' second-round draft pick, is coming off a decent season with Pinar Karsiyaka in his native Turkey, where he averaged 10.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

At 6’9”, 236 pounds, he is a solidly sized small forward who can keep defenses honest with his ability to score from different spots on the floor.

Despite a raw offensive game at this point in his career, the 22-year-old's big, physical frame can be tough to cover and his all-around style of play will be welcomed when he makes his arrival to the NBA.

What Karaman Brings

While Karaman’s offensive game is still developing, he is a versatile player who will be a threat to score from all over the court.

His back-to-the-basket game is solid, as he uses his big frame and physicality to bully smaller players in the paint.

Karaman has also become a decent threat to step out and knock down the three. Shooting just 30.1 percent from beyond the arc last year, he’ll have to improve that number if he’s ever going to be known as a shooter. As a player who is known more for his post game, a nice touch is simply an added bonus.

What Experts Are Saying

If you watch Karaman play, he has a rugged side to his game despite stepping out on the perimeter from time to time. As DraftExpress explains, he showed impressive physical attributes at the Adidas Eurocamp this summer:

"

Ilkan Karaman impressed with his athleticism today. Having matured quite a bit from a physical standpoint in recent seasons, Karaman has a strong 236-pound frame and 7'0.5" wingspan.

Rookie Impact

Karaman isn’t likely to see the NBA next season, as he will probably stay overseas, but if he continues to improve his shooting touch and rebounding abilities, he could make his way to the NBA somewhere down the road.

While good at a lot of things, the Turkish forward isn’t great at any one skill. Taking the time to develop his game abroad is probably the best situation for him and his team next year.

Pick Analysis

This pick doesn’t do much in the sense of improving the roster right away, but it assures that the Nets have a solid piece stashed overseas as they look to tweak their rotation somewhere in the future.

With Deron Williams' impending free agency right around the corner and the future of their roster up in the air, the team needs as many assets as they can get, whether they’re in Brooklyn or not next season.
