Tottenham Hotspur: Gareth Bale Signs New 4-Year Contract with Spurs (Poll)
The post Harry Redknapp-era at Tottenham Hotspur is off to a decent start.
After months of speculation over his future, Welsh winger Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham.
The club announced the contract, which would keep Bale at White Hart Lane until 2016, on its official website on Wednesday.
In a prepared statement, Bale said:
"I’ve been here for five years now and I’ve enjoyed every minute. The fans have been great to me and I’d love to re-pay them and do the very best for them. The Club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done.
"
Bale, who turns 23 in July, joined Spurs from Southampton in 2007. Before the new deal was announced, Bale was under contract with Tottenham until 2015, but had been attracting interest from other clubs, including Barcelona (per the Daily Telegraph).
Bale signed the previous contract in 2011 after being named to the PFA Premier League Team of the 2010-11 season. He earned the honor again in 2011-12.
Terms of the new deal have not been made public, but Spurs supporters should see the contract as good news following the sacking of Reknapp as manager earlier this month.
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly considering his future (per the Daily Mail), and Bale's decision to stay could influence Modric to remain in London as well.
In other Tottenham news, Andre Villas-Boas is in "advanced talks" to become the club's next manager, according to the Daily Telegraph.
