Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: What Can Spurs Gain from Luka Modric Deal?
Tottenham Hotspur must accept the inevitable; Luka Modric is leaving the club over the summer transfer window whether they like it or not.
They must accept the harsh reality that they will be losing their Croatian star and shift their focus on to how they gain from any prospective deal that will take place.
As speculation about a move to Real Madrid continues, Spurs are rumored to be looking at Real Madrid for not one, but two of their current players in exchange for Modric, according to Mirror Football.

The media outlet is reporting the current Tottenham midfielder could be swapped for Ricardo Carvalho and Nuri Sahin—both of whom are currently on the Real Madrid squad and would soften the blow for Spurs.
More importantly, they would allow Real Madrid to offer a transfer fee less than the £40 million at which Spurs value Modric. Should they throw in Sahin as compensation, that figure would drop down to around £30 million, according to the Daily Mail.
With a move imminent by Modric, Tottenham must take the Sahin-plus-cash deal which Real Madrid are reportedly offering, before it's all too late.
Spurs boss Daniel Levy is known for his ability to negotiate well in big deal,s and has done the same here—take the best deal and use the funds to secure Jan Vertonghen and further consolidate their place in the English Premier League.
As sad as it will be for Spurs to see him go, this is the best move for Modric's career and the appeal of playing for Real Madrid slightly outweighs that of the Champions League-less outfit next season.
His Croatian teammates seem to think so, with Dario Srna believing that Modric would not only be a success at Real Madrid and could even become the best player in Europe.
"Modric is a great friend of mine and an outstanding football player. I know that Manchester United and Chelsea want him, but playing in Spain would allow for further development of his talent and I believe that he could win the Ballon d’Or. In the Spanish league he could be much brighter, because in England it is a more physical game and it is difficult for his features to come out.
"
So with Champions League football, a manager, a stronger side and a greater opportunity for his ball-skills to shine, Luka Modric would be crazy not to move to Real Madrid. He will move sometime in the summer transfer window; now it's up to Spurs to recognize that and take the best deal that's available.
Sahin plus £30 million would have to come pretty close.
