Euro 2012: If You Think Spain Are Boring, It's Just That You Don't Get It
"Spain are boring."
That's the latest sound bite from the begrudging anti-Spain and anti-Barcelona brigade. I have to say this has to be the funniest of all the lines I have heard. This is coming mainly from people based in the UK and Ireland, and Premier League fans.
The irony is palpable.

You are the same people who wonder why Ireland were so brutal and so easily picked apart in the Euros. You are the same people who watched in awe as an aging Pirlo rolled back the years and picked apart an English team that could barely string more than three passes together.
Has any other team ever made Pirlo look that good?
I hear you same people moan and lament the standards of your national team, and wonder what is it about their players that makes them unable to pass the ball and hold onto possession.
Really, do you not know?
Then you see Spain, quite possibly the best ever international side at dominating possession and controlling a game, and do you appreciate it? Do you acknowledge how incredible this is and enjoy watching it?
Do you criticise the opposition for parking the bus? Do you appreciate the skill involved in each intricate pass and marvel at the movement of the Spanish midfield?
No, you don't. You complain about being bored.
Well, this is why your national team is so rubbish. This is why your national team will never be anything but rubbish. It's because your players have the same simplistic mentality as you and, as a result, are totally limited in their style of football. They just don't get it and neither do you.
This Spanish side will be talked about for years to come as one of the best ever, and they will be remembered for the way they could dominate possession and control a game.
The last two games have not been their best and Del Bosque probably should play with Pedro and Torres, as at times they don't have a forward pass.
However, that's only the last two games. Two games in which the oppositions game plan was to defend, defend, defend.
Overall Spain are only second in goals scored and attempts on target in the Euros, so, clearly, they are playing attacking football.
Italy were the only team to have a go at them and the result was an open attacking game.
Its not Spain's fault that they are so much better than everyone else, and its not Spain's fault that everyone they play just parks the bus in front of the net and says to Spain, "Okay, you break us down."
Spain then just hold onto the ball, and why shouldn't they? It works and it's amazing.
If you don't get it, then maybe you're the one who is boring as you don't seem to appreciate many aspects of the game.
Stick to your kick and run football if that is what your limited attention span needs. I'll stick to marveling at Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta and Co. as they continue to entertain me with their incredible possession football whilst making it all look so easy.
I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't appreciate this team, as it's truly one of the great international sides of all time. Hopefully, for football's sake, Spain can retain the Euros title and other teams and leagues will copy their blueprint.
