My Guide to Footballing Brilliance!
My footballing guide to brilliance is based on three things and so is every football managers job. Tactics, Motivation, Players. These all add up to make a successful team. I am a keen player of the football manager games but have all seen similar tactics work in the real game.
Tactics/Players
The tactics I have found to work are the ones which correspond the type of formation you choose. Some like to have a supporting attacker behind the front two. The formation known as 4-1-2-1-2 not just gives the attackers support but also the defence too.

The narrow formation needs to have quick neat one/two touch passing players to play right through the middle of defence. The short passing will open up defences easier than a can opener opening cans.
The two midfield players should be able to drift out-wide to swing in a cross or to help defend against other wide players. Although the base position of the midfielders should be very central you must give them runs and free space too run out wide.
Another formation would be the 4-5-1 formation a good attacker is essential in this formation a player like Fernando Torres in the picture above would be ideal as the front man. The attacker needs to be good at heading and holding up the ball ready to pass on the the forward running midfielders.
Quick, pacey dribblers are nice to have on the wing, players the have the skill to take others on and whip in a dangerous cross. Two of the midfield players will need to sit and hold in front of the defence, this helps to stop being outnumbered at the back.
There is nothing worse then being outnumbered at the back as a few quick passes and a simple shot could put you behind.
One other formation i like to play is 4-3-3. This formation has an attacking emphasis and should be played direct to the middle of the three forwards. If this forward is a good header-er and is also good at holding up play he can then lay it off out wide for a goalscoring opportunity. This formation is prone to leaving yourself outnumbered at the back especially on the counter attack.
Therefore you should be cautious of this. I tend to switch to this style of play in the last 10 minutes of matches if in need of a win or to salvage a draw.
Motivation
Players and tactics can only get you so far in football. All your players need to be fully motivated and happy at the club. The Cristiano Ronaldo situation in the summer is not good for any club. This disrupts not only the player in question but all the other players in the rest of the team.
The bad atmosphere in the team can only lead to more arguments and jealousy amongst the players and cause bad results on the pitch.
I hope this helps for your guide to brilliance!
