Anthony Davis: Draft Prospects Who Would Mesh Well with Likely Top Pick
Basketball fans in New Orleans are raving about the imminent possibility of Kentucky stud Anthony Davis donning the Hornets blue, but he likely will not be the only hyped 2012 NBA Draft pick added to their 2012-13 roster.
As if the Hornets weren't fortunate enough to grab the top overall pick in the June 28 draft, they also will have the No. 10 overall pick to add another youngster to put next to Davis.
It's unclear whether or not New Orleans will keep the pick or deal it for more experienced pieces, but here are a few draft prospects who would be natural fits next to Davis and could spell playoff success in the future.
Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina
The Hornets have not truly replaced Chris Paul since his departure last offseason, and Kendall Marshall has the upside and natural ability to fit in the system and the league.
Anthony Davis excelled in his Kentucky system, which was led at the point by a pass-early-and-often Marquis Teague. Marshall is notorious for his facilitation skills and will be able to spread the ball around, which will immensely help Davis.
Jarrett Jack played well given the circumstances last season for New Orleans, but he'd be great aside Marshall in the backcourt and would give the team some much-needed depth.
Plus, Marshall has a killer shot and is by far the most complete package at the position in this draft. He has the ability to become a superstar.
Austin Rivers, G, Duke
Many people thought Duke standout Austin Rivers would be best fit to stay in school for another year, but he's made his decision and the Hornets are as good a place for him as anyone.
Rivers has fire, passion, play-making ability and a swift shot—all things that New Orleans desperately need right now. Davis is a game changer and will be an immovable force on the defensive side of the ball, but he won't answer all of their problems (especially scoring).
With Eric Gordon's future in New Orleans up in the air, Rivers would lock down the shooting guard position long term and could be a formidable teammate besides Jarrett Jack in the backcourt.
Jeremy Lamb, SG, Connecticut
Jeremy Lamb asserted his dominance in the Big East last season, and he's showing no signs of slowing down as he heads into the NBA.
He has big-shot potential, can pull up from anywhere on the floor and can drive to the lane with menacing ability.
Lamb has the potential to be the team's No. 1 scoring option, and with the lack of depth and talent at his position, it should be no time until he gets that responsibility in New Orleans.
