Miami Heat Parade: Weather Could Rain out Potential South Beach Celebration
South Beach might be hoping for a celebration with the newly minted NBA Champion Miami Heat this weekend, but Mother Nature does not appear to be very accommodating.
According to a weather alert in the Miami Herald, the National Weather Service is estimating at least a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It also says that weather models are "split between wet and dry conditions early next week."
"A low-pressure system forming off of the Yucatan peninsula is expected to head north into the Gulf area, with some fragments drifting eastward towards the Florida Keys and South Florida. There is a 70 percent chance of a tropical depression formation within the next 48 hours, the National Hurricane Center reports.
"
It took LeBron James eight seasons to get to the top of the NBA mountain. He wants nothing more than to enjoy this moment with all the people in Miami who were there to support him when the rest of the world was ready to throw him under a bus.
The Heat may have noticed the weather report, as it was reported on Friday by Miami's local CBS station that the parade will take place on Monday morning, with a celebration starting at 9:00 a.m. and the parade getting underway at 11:00 a.m.
But because the weather in Florida is so tacky, everything could be put on hold. I doubt that it will change the feeling that James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, et al. have right now.
It would be funny to think that after their pre-season parade two years ago, where James declared that they would win "not five...not six...not seven" championships, they won't be able to have another for their first title because of forces beyond their control.
Before we go blaming Mother Nature, are we so certain that Dan Gilbert isn't capable of controlling the weather telepathically? Of course, if he were, it would probably get tired of hearing him talk about how great he is and abandon him to.
