The Portuguese team has been impressive thus far in the tournament, but they have also not been sharp with their finishing at times.
Ronaldo has been the guiltiest of being careless with his opportunities in front of goal, and while he does have three goals in the last two games, he certainly should have more with the amount of chances he has received.
According to Whoscored.com, Ronaldo has taken 30 shots to get his three goals. This is by far the most shots taken by any player in the tournament.
The Czech Republic was the weakest team in the knockout stage. Greece is the only other team that might be worse, but the Greeks have shown the ability to pack the back and win 1-0 against more talented teams.
Portugal clearly should have put more goals away in this game. In the semifinal match, the team will not be able to get away with being so wasteful.
The Portuguese will take on the winner between Spain and France. Either or these teams will be favored against Portugal and both would win the semifinal matchup.
Whether it is Spain or France that advances, Portugal will face a side brimming with confidence. These are two extremely talented squads and this will be a hard-fought battle.
If Spain wins, they will continue to think of themselves as the favorites and play with the same swagger that has characterized La Roja for the last four years.
If France pulls off an upset, the team will firmly believe that they can beat any team in the tournament.
Portugal, however, cannot take too many positives away from a 1-0 victory over a subpar opponent when it took the team 79 minutes to get a goal.
Portugal has had a successful tournament thus far, but the team is simply too one-dimensional on offense to pull out a victory in the semifinal.
