UFC Talents Outside of the Octagon

Dan HiergesellJun 27, 2012

For most of us, being able to front heel kick somebody in the chin or sink in a beautiful rear naked choke is a talent in itself.

However, for a handful of UFC fighters, their skills aren't necessarily limited to mixed martial arts.

From poker players to surfers, action stars to soccer players, UFC fighters possess unique abilities that separate them from the rest of the pack.

Here are the most talented fighters outside of the Octagon.

Cung Le

1 of 14

Did you know Cung Le was an actor?

Apparently he's a pretty good one.

Not just because he can spin kick an armored truck on its side, but because the guy can actually take a script and own it.

It just goes to show you that the dynamic exposure of MMA over the past five years has created more media outlets for top fighters like Le.

Jason 'Mayhem' Miller

Jason "Mayhem" Miller can do it all outside of the Octagon.

From video game enthusiast to Bully Beatdown host, the sometimes psychotic mixed martial artist hones more endeavors than most.

Miller may be officially done with MMA for now, but his unique abilities outside of the sport never seem to quit.

B.J. Penn

Surfing can be just as hard as professionally fighting, so to see both of these unique abilities combined into one legendary fighter's skill set is beyond impressive.

However, if there was any fighter on this planet that could perfect both of these talents, it'd be B.J. Penn.

I wonder what it looks like when he fights waves.

Roy Nelson

I know what you're thinking, and the answer is no.

I'm not putting Roy Nelson on this list because he can down a bucket of KFC chicken faster than most people can order it.

Nelson gets a spot on this unique slideshow based on something entirely different.

It's his ability to grow arguably the greatest beard in MMA history.

While many people consider Nelson's talent of the eating variety, I'm talking about his knack for manifesting perfection.

Brock Lesnar

5 of 14

Everybody knows how much of a beast Brock Lesnar is in the MMA game.

He may be retired, but his dynamic athletic abilities live on, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that Lesnar is an uber good football player.

His brief days of crushing skulls for the Minnesota Vikings speaks for itself—not to mention his ability to F-5 John Cena through a table.

Stephan Bonnar

6 of 14

Not many people can get through a military arms training, but UFC veteran Stephan Bonnar excels where others fail.

His ability to complete an AR-15 Instructional Program is downright badass.

Let's just hope Bonnar harnesses that focus and gets his wish of coaching The Ultimate Fighter.

Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone

7 of 14

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is a dirt bike-riding, bull-taming, rock-climbing MMA fighter.

And even though his true cowboy way of life has been called into question in the past, Cerrone's talents outside of the Octagon resemble everything of the western kind.

Not for nothing, but how many professional fighters can successfully rock a funky hat ringside besides Floyd Mayweather on Cinco de Mayo?

Urijah Faber

8 of 14

Urijah Faber may have the unique ability to grow his hair like Goldilocks, but that's not what lands him on this list.

The fact of the matter is that over the past five years Faber has turned into an absolute promotional monster. From AMP Energy Drink to K-Swiss, "The California Kid" has transformed his name into the household kind.

Based on fame and recognition, he may be a top-five figure in American MMA.

Jose Aldo

9 of 14

Similar to Kenny Florian, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has a sweet spot for European football.

Maybe that's why his kicks inside the Octagon are dangerously filthy (that's a good thing).

Check this video out and see what I mean.

Nick Diaz

10 of 14

Not only do regular people struggle to compete in triathlons, but so do professional MMA fighters. The time invested and cardio needed to do something like that is almost alien.

For Nick Diaz, however, one of the world's most controversial MMA figures, running those extra miles, swimming those extra laps and burning those extra calories seem natural.

Doing what Diaz does is indeed a talent—a tiring one at that.

Jon Jones

11 of 14

Jon Jones' talents inside the ring may be the most unique ever.

In just a short MMA career, Jones has already gained the fighting world's respect as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

However, what most people don't know—except for the dealerships he visits—Jones is one heck of an automobile extraordinaire.

Now, when I say extraordinaire, I mean he possess the ability to purchase expensive cars like the one pictured above (2012 Bentley Continental GT worth $190,000) and think nothing of it.

Truly a talent I wouldn't mind possessing (minus his recent crash, of course).

Frank Mir

12 of 14

When Frank Mir decides to hang it up, his passion for broadcasting will prolong his career within the sport.

In the past, Mir has gotten his feet wet color-commentating for the WEC, and he sounded good doing it.

As for the future, he has already expressed his plans to commentate for Strikeforce, a Zuffa-owned promotion that surely commands a bigger audience than the WEC ever did.

If everything goes as planned, Mir could be the next guy in line to replace Mike Goldberg.

Rampage Jackson

13 of 14

Rampage Jackson is truly one of a kind.

The international fight star has become one of the most recognizable names in the sport, despite not holding a championship since 2007.

Regardless, Jackson is consistently proving that promotional and monetary success can be achieved if you happen to resemble Mr. T.

Because if his time playing that role in The A-Team showed us anything, it's that Jackson truly has a talent of looking like a badass on the big screen, as well as in the cage.

Forrest Griffin

14 of 14

The former UFC light heavyweight champion may look like a doofus, but Forrest Griffin is actually a pretty smart guy.

In his free time, he enjoys writing best-selling books about surviving an apocalyptic meltdown and competing in World Series of Poker tournaments literally hours after fighting.

His writing skills may be unorthodox and quirky, but being able to take out Rampage Jackson and hit a straight on the flop in the same weekend is beyond talented.
