St. Louis Cardinals' Fallout

Daniel ShoptawFeb 11, 2009

People are still talking about the Adam Kennedy dismissal.

Bernie Mikalsz says it was a good thing. Ignore the sunk cost and just get rid of a guy that doesn't want to be here.  All he questions is the timing. There's a lot to what he is saying, but I don't see how this is a chance to give "MLB opportunities to members of the heralded player-development system."

There are no second basemen being developed, really.

Brendan Ryan? He's already had chances, so I'm not sure removing Kennedy really helps there. If Tyler Greene wins the job, then I could see the point. Brian Barden and Joe Thurston? Not from our farm system, and obviously Skip Schumaker doesn't really count since he wasn't developed as a second baseman.

BTW, if you want to learn more about Thurston, here's a good place to start.

Of course, you can't summarize it better than Kennedy did himself: "I obviously did something to [tick] Tony off."

A random selection of blogs shows the dismantling of the collection of '02 Angels, a surprising agreement with La Russa, and the belief that the replacement will be likely obtained via trade.

Cardinals added three to the non-roster invitee list. Don't expect any of them will either excite the readership or be a part of St. Louis's plans come April.

Cardinals head to their first arbitration case in 10 years tomorrow with Rick Ankiel.  That's a discussion for another day, however! Come back later this morning and this afternoon for the continuation of the Playing Pepper series with both New York teams.
